Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did poem. We highlighted our poem today. (Logan)

We did math. We sorted Jelly Beans and then we graphed it. We ate them after we did that. (Kate)

We did writing. For writing we finished our rough draft. We are going to keep working on it after spring break. We are going to work on our final draft. (Andrew)

We went to library. We got new books. We went to the computer lab and then we played Starfall or ABCYa. (James)

We did Daily 5. We got to pick 2 choices. (JR)

We did our assembly. Someone told us a story and he was being funny! There were lots of people there. We helped him with the story. They had all of the kindergarten people and some other grades. 398.2 was his special code for his books. (Sophia)

We did snack. Miss Tappana read The Easter Egg by Jan Brett. (JR)

We did morning job. For morning job we colored a daytime picture of what it looks like in the daytime. And we got a coloring packet. It was made by Jan Brett! (Sophia)


In your child’s folder:
·       Behavior updates – please sign those and return them on the Monday after Spring Break!
·       April calendar and lunch menu
·       Informational flyer about an upcoming field trip
·       Informational flyer about the upcoming bond issue
·       How To writing – your child worked very hard to write steps to teach someone how to do something and his/her work is included in the folder today!
·       We did not send home reading group books because of the long Spring Break. Instead, we will send those home the week after Spring Break.

The week after Spring Break we will be getting chick eggs. We are going to have them for 2 weeks. We will be learning about chicks. The eggs will hatch after the first week and we will get to learn all about that. We are so excited!

REMINDER: Please turn in your order form for the class book ASAP so you can guarantee a book! We will be writing final drafts after Spring Break.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did math. For math we played 6 Crayons in All. (Mikayla)

We did writing. We drew our picture of our rough draft. We outlined it with pencil and then colored it in with markers. (Andrew)

We did Fundations. We did little cards and big cards and the vowel chart. We sorted some digraphs. There was th, sh, and ch. (Kate)

We did P.E. In P.E. we played germs. What you have to do is throw the ball at the germ and someone got germs on them when they touched it. Coach Gambill had a big ball for the germ. We also played a game that had money. It was fake money. We were trying to get a bean bag in a basket and then you got the dot you were standing on. (JR and Andrew)

We did Daily 5. (Evan)

We did snack. We ate our snack and we read about the Earth. We learned about the Earth from the book. We learned that that’s the only place that has living things! We learned that it’s the only place that has air! It’s a special place. (Sophia)

REMINDERS:
·       Tomorrow is PJ day for Spirit Week if you would like to participate!
·       Library is tomorrow, so make sure your child brings his/her library book back so he/she can check out another one before Spring Break.
·       I attached the flyer/form for the Mill Creek Elementary Color Run Walk. If you would like to receive a t-shirt when you register, you must register by April 6!
·       The kids have been working SO hard this week on their plan sheet and rough draft. I have been extremely impressed with how hard they have been working and the quality of the work!! J Please return order forms for this class book ASAP. If you do not want to purchase the book, there is a box at the bottom of the form.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had counselor. Ms. Mielke came. We talked about mean words and nice words. We read a book. We did a matching game. Some people got them right. (JR)

We played a new game. It was called 5 crayons in a box. We put our combinations on a paper and we drew a picture to match. We had partners. (Sylus)

We did snack. We read a book about the moon. We learned about planets. (Layla)

We did our project. We drew what we know about the night. (Kate)

We did Daily 5. (Jayden)

We did writing. We started our rough draft for our books about what we are going to be when we grow up. We used our plan sheet to help us. (Andrew and Kymiah)

We did art. (Logan)

We did Fundations. We did big cards, little cards, vowel chart, and we made a list of –ick words. We wrote them on the white boards. (Ginger)

Tomorrow is crazy hair day!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We went to the Planetarium and we learned about space. It was a round place. We got to paint the sky with magic paint. There was a ball thing in the middle that made stars. We learned about stars making figures in the sky like Leo the Lion and the Hunter. Those are called constellations! We got to watch a movie and we turned off the lights and it felt like we were moving. (Sophia and Andrew and Connor)

We did snack. (Layla)

We did a craft. We made a sun. We painted it with orange and yellow. We learned that the sun is a star! It gives us light and heat. (Sophia and Kate and Layla)

We played Counters in a Cup with 6 cubes. Last time we played with 5. We couldn’t peak. We wrote our thinking down. It was fun! (Sylus)

We did Daily 5. (Evan)

We went to music. We watched a video. (Malai)

Spirit Day tomorrow is to wear red!

If you can, please make sure your child has a snack in his or her backpack each day. We have noticed a lot of kids without snacks. Thanks!!

Student Council Reminders:
2nd Annual Mill Creek Color Run/Walk April 29th- 3:45-4:15. (Rain Date May 6th)  Cost-$10 per participant (includes T-shirt).  Must register by April 6th to get a shirt. No late registrations accepted.   
Students 2nd grade and younger must have a parent present for the Run/Walk.

Community Service- Toy collection for The Central Missouri Humane Society.
We will collect small dog and cat toys in the commons from April 11-15th.  The toys will be delivered to the Humane Society.

Ronald McDonald House Pull Tabs are due by Friday, April 29th.  They will be collected on April 30th.

Mill Creek Spirit Day for April-April 15th
Be a testing “Super Hero” Day.  Dress like your favorite Super Hero.  No masks, props, wigs, face paint, or hair color.

Here is what we did today:

We did math. We made a chart about the ways to make 6. We also made page for our class book of ways to make 6. (Kate)

We read a book called Who Likes the Sun. We learned about day and night. We sorted day and night pictures. (Mikayla)

We did Fundations. We did our big cards and little cards and vowel chart. We made a list of words in the _ick word family. Some words we wrote down were kick, lick, flick, chick, and stick. (Ginger)

We did Daily 5. We had 2 choices. (JR)

We did writing. We wrote about what we want to be when we grow up. We read a book called When I Grow Up and the boy wanted to be lots of things. It was fun! (Andrew)

We did our poem. It’s called In The Sky. (Logan and James)

We had specials. It was library. We picked out new books and went into the computer lab. We read a book. It was a crayon book. It was super silly. (Sophia)

Tomorrow is our field trip to the Planetarium! Make sure that your child arrives to school on time tomorrow so that he or she does not miss the bus. We will be leaving in the morning.

Tomorrow’s Spirit Day attire is sports! You can check the PDF file that was attached on Friday’s email.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did writing. We revised our plan sheet. We used a checklist. (Andrew)

We did Daily 5. (Logan)

We did free choice because we earned 100 Cougar Compliments. We had blocks, puppets, cars, games, Legos, and Play-Doh to choose from. (Mikayla)

We used our sense of smell to find popcorn. Miss Tappana hid a bag of popcorn in the classroom. It was in a locker. We had popcorn during math. (Kate)

We did Fundations. We did our big cards and little cards and vowel chart. We used the magnet boards. We practiced the _ack words. (Sophia)

We played 10 in a Circle. You take out a cube when you land on a black one. If you land on a red you have to put a cube back in the circle. We counted to 40. (JR)

We went to P.E. We did stations. Our stations were football, baseball, dodgeball, basketball, and a little yellow ball. (Evan)

We smelled some little containers and we had to guess what was in there. There were different smells like cinnamon, garlic, perfume, and mint toothpaste. You had to try to guess what it is. Mrs. Hotchkiss wrote our guesses on the SmartBoard. (Sophia)

Our poem is called Senses at Work. It’s about our senses. We highlighted our chunks like ch, wh, sh, and ck. (Lyrik)

REMINDERS:
·       We sent home the bag of books for the kids to read this weekend! We also included a bookmark with reading strategies. Make sure to return those books and the bookmark on Monday so they have something to read during Daily 5.
·       Next week we are going to start talking about space! We have a field trip on Tuesday to the Planetarium. Please make sure your child is here on time so that they do not miss the bus for the field trip.
·       It is Spirit Week next week! If your child would like to participate, please see the attachment.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did writing. We read Looking for Leprechauns. We wrote how to catch the leprechaun. Some friends got to share. We had to turn our paper over so the leprechaun couldn’t see it. We colored the leprechaun. (Kate and Kymiah and Layla)

We did snack. We read the book A Button in Her Ear. She needed it to hear like we do. (Layla)

We went on the computers with Ms. Mielke in the computer lab. We had a test with games to find out what was different. It was really big. When we were done we got to play Hang Mouse. (Sophia)

We did specials. We did art. We made a fish, shark, or dragon. We got to free draw after. (Evan)

We did our poem. We focused on descriptive words. (Logan and Andrew)

It was St. Patrick’s Day! We listened to Irish music! (Andrew)

We did sign language. There were different kinds of sign language. We learned some letters in the alphabet. (Mikayla)

REMINDERS:
·        Please return order forms if you would like to purchase one of the class books that the kids will be making! They are going to be awesome if you want a copy to cherish! J

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We had our 3rd grade buddies. We made a rainbow and cut out a pot and gold. (Sophia and Logan)

We played math. We played Towers of 6. We used crayons. We had 2 dice. (Kate)

We had a box. There were some things in the box. Some things were pointy, sharp, and prickly. We used our sense of touch to figure out what was inside. There were shells and other things. We passed the box around to guess what was inside by using our sense of touch. At the end Miss Tappana pulled the things out. (Ginger)

We did read aloud. The book we read was My Five Senses. It was all about our 5 senses. Our senses are taste, smell, hear, see, and touch. (Mikayla)

We did snack. (Layla)

We did Daily 5. We made 1 choice. (James and JR)

We also did more things today but we didn’t have enough time during closing meeting to share everything. We worked on revising for our writing time. For Fundations, we focused on the _ack word family. The kids thought of the following words: sack, Zack, tack, and lack.

REMINDERS:
·       Please return your Kite project that was sent home over the weekend. We have received a few of them already but we would love to get the rest so we can hang them on our bulletin board!
·       If you would like to order one of the class books that we will be publishing about what the kids want to be when they grow up, please fill out and return the order form with money. The kids will be working very hard on their writing to make it their best! Thank you!
·       As mentioned yesterday, we are looking for donations of washable fine tip markers to use when we are publishing our class book. We would love any donations! Thank you so much!
·       Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s day so wear green if you would like! J

Hi Parents!
Here is what we did today:

We did our tasting test. We tried lemons, dark chocolate, jelly beans, and pretzels. We circled the one we loved the best. (Mikayla) Check out Twitter for pictures! There are some pretty funny action shots! 

We did writing. We were double checking our steps to add more details. We wrote steps 5 or 6. We drew quick sketches. (Lyrik)

We did our poem. We underlined chunks like wh, ch, ck, and sh. (Logan and Andrew)

We did Fundations. We did our big cards and little cards and vowel chart. We learned the new chunk “ck”. The picture is a sock. (Kate) There are lots of fun chunk games on Starfall to keep practicing!

We went to library. We got new books. We went into the computer lab and played games. (Evan)

We did Daily 5. (James)

We did played a math game. It’s called Towers of 6. We rolled the dice and colored the number of boxes that we rolled. We had to figure out how many more cubes to make 6. (JR)

It was the 125th day of school! (Layla)

Here are some questions to talk about with your child:
1.            What are neurons and how do we make connections between our neurons?
2.          Think of an example where you made some new connections in your brain. What were you doing?
3.          What can you do this week to make some new connections? Set one specific goal.

Mrs. Hotchkiss and I were also wondering if you could send in any fine tip washable markers this week. We are going to start making our class book at the end of this week and the beginning of next week and we will need those types of markers. That would be awesome if you could donate some to the class! Thank you so much!!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did P.E. We hit down bowling pins. We changed stations. (Lyrik)

We did our poem. It’s called Senses at Work. (Logan)

We did writing. We wrote about our weekend and what we did over the weekend. There was a paper with more lines. Miss Tappana challenged us to do our best and add labels to our pictures. We had to use details and fill up the whole space. (Sophia and James and Kate and Malai and Layla)

We learned about our Body Buddy. She has a cane to help her because she can’t see. Miss Tappana showed us braille. (Ginger) Our Body Buddy can’t see and she uses a cane to help her see since she is blind. The Body Buddy is basically a large doll so the kids can understand what it is like without their sense of sight.

We did morning job. We had to fill in missing numbers. It was on a Hundreds Chart. (Kate and Kymiah)

We did our story. It was called Look, Listen, Taste, Touch, and Smell. We were learning about our eyes today. We ate snack and listened to Miss Tappana read the story. (Mikayla)

We did Fundations. We did big cards and little cards and our vowel chart. We learned a new digraph. The digraph “wh” sounds like “w”. (Andrew)

We played On and Off. We used 6 cubes. (Jayden)

REMINDERS:
·       Tomorrow is Library Day!
·       If your child forgot the bag of books today, please help remind them to bring it back tomorrow so they have books to read during Daily 5.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did writing. For writing we got to do our third and fourth steps on our plan sheet. (Sophia)

We celebrated Ginger’s birthday today. We got to eat Ginger’s yummy birthday snack. (Layla)

We did art. We made dragons! Mr. Gwinner is going to take pictures of our dragons. It was really fun! (Andrew)

We did our poem. We highlighted our poem. (Logan)

We voted for our Cougar Compliment Party! It will be a free choice party. (Lyrik and Ginger) We haven’t picked a day for this yet, but we will let you know J

We did math. We played 10 in a Circle. We counted to 30. If you landed on the red cube you had to put a cube back in the circle. We had different partners. (Kate and Malai)

We did Fundations. For Fundations we did another chunk. It’s the “th” chunk. We did big cards and little cards and the vowel chart. We did tapping.  (Sophia and Ginger and Evan)

It was the 123rd day of school! (Evan)


Tonight in the folder there will be an order form from a company called Student Treasures that is going to publish a book for us! In the next few weeks, we will have the kids write about a favorite Kindergarten memory. This will be a class book and each kid will have a page with writing and a picture. You can purchase the book with the order form if you would like! The kids are going to work very hard to make it their best work! J

I also did the biweekly updates. They are in the folders to be signed and returned for Monday!

Also, the kids brought home books to read this weekend. Make sure to bring those back on Monday so we have them for our Daily 5 choices!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did Fundations. For Fundations we learned the digraph “sh”. We did our big cards and little cards and vowel chart. (Sophia)

We did a puzzle. It was a skeleton. It was a normal person. We learned what bones are called. People got to come up to build parts. (Max and Connor)

We did writing. We planned our How To book. We wrote steps 1 and 2. (Andrew and Kymiah)

We did math. We played Racing Bears. For Racing Bears you have to move the bear to match the dice. If you get all the cubes gone then the bears stay at the end. (Dylan)

It was the 122nd day of school. (Layla)

We did our poem. It’s called My Body. Our word wall word is yes. (Logan and Evan)

We went to music. We had a substitute teacher. We played our buttons game. (Kymiah)

We read our book. It was all about different kinds of bones like bird bones, our bones, kangaroo bones, and different kinds of animal bones. (Mikayla)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We had counselor. We got to learn about how to listen. We got to see a special video on the SmartBoard. Pepper came! (Logan and Sophia and Connor)

We did math. We wrote on a piece of paper. We wrote how to make 5. We drew a picture to show 5. (Kate)

We used popsicle sticks to make bones on the bodies we made yesterday. We used glue to stick the bones on. It was our body. (Sylus)

We read Bones. We talked about our bones compared to animal bones. The T-Rex had the biggest bone. We compared the big feet to our feet in the book. We compared a mouse’s skull to our skull. We did arms too. (Mikayla)

We did writing. We made a plan sheet of what our stories are going to be about. They are How To stories. (Andrew)

We did Fundations. For Fundations we got to learn our first little chunk. It was “ch” like chin. We did our big and little cards and our vowel chart. (Sophia)

We did specials. We did library. We watched a video. There was an alligator. His friends were being too bossy, so he went away to sleep in the water.(Layla)

Kindergarten Registration is tomorrow evening from 4:30 to 6:30 PM if you have an incoming kindergartner!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did Fundations. This is our last day for our capital letters. We wrote Y and Z in our Fundations notebook. We did big cards and little cards and vowel chart. We did tapping. (Sophia)

We did snack. We read Skeletons and Muscles. (Logan)

We did math. We had word problems. Some people got to act them out. We had to show our thinking. We had a little extra time to play Count Around the Circle. Whoever got to a group of 10 had to sit down. As we play our group gets smaller. (Ginger)

We did  P.E. In P.E. we did the bean bags. We threw the bean bags in the basket. We had lots of stations. (Lyrik)

We did writing. We made a list of things we can do that we could write about for our How To books. We made a list of things on the SmartBoard. (Andrew)

We did Daily 5. (James)

We did our poem. It was called My Body. There were pictures of your hand with skin and pictures without skin. It’s called a skeleton without your skin. (Evan)

For project we drew on a piece of paper with our body. We had to color our body with realistic colors. (Layla)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp! (Kate)

Reminder: Library Day is tomorrow, so please remind your child to bring the library book back!

Yesterday we watched another Class Dojo video! We are now on Episode 3. The kids absolutely love these videos. They have done a great job with watching the video and then talking about it after. This video talked more about trying hard even if something is hard, which is very important to understand as a Kindergartner. Here is the link:


It would be great if you could watch this at home with your child this week! After watching this video, you could discuss the following questions:
1.                   Name a time you were afraid to ask for help. Why were you afraid? (Both parent and student should pick a moment to share)
2.                   How can you improve the phrase "I can't do this?”
3.                   Think of a time where you just didn't get “it.” What could you do in that situation?

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

We did Fundations. For Fundations we got to write on our white boards. We did the big cards and little cards and the vowel chart. We got to sky write on our Fundations board. We did the letters Y and Z. (Sophia)

We were talking about our body during snack. We read My Body. Our poem was called My Body too! We are talking about our body this week. We are talking about keeping our body healthy so we don’t get sick. (Ginger)

We did Daily 5. We did one choice. (Lyrik)

We did writing. For writing we did Monday News. We wrote about our weekend. Our goal was to use the paper with more lines on it. (Mikayla)

We did math. We played Collect 15. You roll the dice. You match the number on the dice with the number of bears and you put it on the board. You try to get 15 total.  (Logan and Evan)

We did morning job. We sorted pictures to put them in order. It was how to make a PB&J. (Andrew)

We did art. For art we didn’t have Mr. Gwinner. Instead we had Mrs. Cockrell. We watched a movie about a guy that paints. (Max)

We talked about how many times we breathe each day. We breathe 18,000 times a day. We have been talking about our body a lot at school. (Layla)

Here is what we did today!

We did music. We played a game. We earned points. (Logan, Max, and Andrew)

We did writing. We made a PB and J. We did in the wrong order at first. We put the steps in the right order. We put the number on the steps. (Kate and Lyrik)

We played a math game. We played Counters in a Cup. We had to write how many were in and how many were out. (Sophia)

We did Fundations. We did our big cards, little cards, vowel chart, and tapping. When Miss Tappana put the cards in for tapping we had to tap the word to read it. We did skywriting and wrote in our Fundations notebook. We wrote W and X. (Ginger)

We did snack. Miss Tappana read a book called Parts. There was a little boy that was afraid his body was falling apart. We had to get lots of tape. (Layla)

We did our poem called Big Bad Cold. Today we highlighted it on the smartboard and we highlighted our poem to put in our poetry folder. We drew some pictures. (Mikayla and Lyrik)

Reading bag books are coming home today! Please have your child read these to you this weekend! Please return these on Monday!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We put glitter on our hands and pretended it was germs. We gave high fives and handshakes. We washed our hands. (Max)

We did media. We picked out some books. We looked at real penguins. We played on ABCya. (Mikayla and Malai)

We did writing. We made a chart about How To books. We looked at How to books like cooking books and building books. It was fun! (Andrew) This is our next writing unit. The kids will be writing their own How To book! Brainstorm ideas with your child tonight about things they know how to do well!

We did Daily 5. (Evan)

We played Counters in a Cup with a partner. We had 5 cubes. We had to put some in and some out and we had to guess how many were in the cup. It was fun! (Sylus) This is a great game to play at home! Take a cup and 5 items (beans, pennies, etc.) put some in the cup and have your child use the number outside of the cup to figure out how many would be in the cup. This is practicing number combinations to 5. Make sure to ask, “How do you know?” or “How did you figure that out?”

We read a book at read aloud time on the SmartBoard called Germs Make Me Sick. (Kate and Lyrik)

We did the letters X and W in Fundations. We wrote on our boards. (Lyrik)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We went to different classes. We were celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. (Logan)

We played On and Off with a new partner. We charted the ways to make 5 if some are off and some are on. (Sylus)

We went to P.E. We tried to knock the pins down. We played castle ball. We played a game with sticks where we had to tap to the song. (Malai and Kate)

We had Mr. Hotchkiss’ Dad come. We called him Grandpa Hotchkiss. We read Green Eggs and Ham. (Evan)

In Mrs. Flanagin’s classroom we made Cat in the Hat. In Miss Reinkemeyer’s class we said how we would take care of the earth. (Andrew)

In Mrs. Winn’s class we played a Green Eggs and Ham tic-tac-toe. (Ginger)

In Mrs. Russo’s class we made Oobleck. We used magic water and glue. We watched the book on the Smartboard. (Sophia)

In Mrs. Dixon’s class we watched One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. We graphed with Goldfish and we ate the Goldfish. (Layla)

In our class we read the book What Pet Should I Get? We made our own pet. (James)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did writing. Our books have dedications. We finished our books and we read it to our partner. We are taking them home today! (Layla and Mikayla) The kids worked VERY hard on these personal narrative stories! Make sure they read them to you tonight! We talked about how authors pick titles and cover artwork. We wrote opening sentences to include who, what, when, and where. The students also planned how what happened first, next, and last and used these drawing to write their story in order. We added dedications at the end. We spent a couple days on editing and revising to make it our best! They went back and added details and fixed mechanical errors. Way to go guys! This is something you will definitely want to keep!

We went to art and we finished up our fish painting. We got to free draw or paint whatever you wanted. It is fun! (Evan and Andrew)

Today is the 115th day of school. Today is the first day of March. (Max)

We did math. We played On and Off. It was a different version. We had a game board. We had 5 cubes in all. We dropped it on the paper. We told our partner how many landed on and how many landed off. We wrote that number of the paper. (Ginger)

We did read aloud. We read a book about keeping our bodies healthy. (Jayden)

For Daily 5 some of us did reading groups. For morning job we did a paper for the word “for”. (Lyrik)
