Hi! My name is Mrs. Vesta Hotchkiss! This year is my 12th year teaching and my 10th year teaching Kindergarten at Mill Creek. I had previously taught first grade at New Haven Elementary in Columbia. In May 2010, I graduated from the University of Missouri with my Bachelors in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. During the 2010-2011 school year, I participated in the MU Teaching Fellowship Program where I completed my Masters in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum in July 2011. In December 2012, I completed my ELL (English Language Learners) certification. I moved to Columbia, MO when I started college at MU in 2006 and I have called it “home” ever since! I grew up in Springfield, MO, which is where most of my family currently lives. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Phil Hotchkiss! I love spending time with my son, Auggie, my daughter, Violet, and my beagle, Henry Hound!
Through my past teaching experiences, I have learned that every child is unique and that it is my job to build on his or her strengths as they contribute to our classroom. I also believe that children need a classroom environment that is supportive and nurturing, in which students feel accepted and work together in their learning.
