Here is what we did today!

We did library. We did computer lab and we got new books. (Isaac)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We made a 101 hat. (Isaac) We put 10 dots of 10 strips of paper and then added one extra dot to make 101!

We did Fundations. We learned how to do tapping with letters. (Russell and Dempsey) Here is a video example of how to tap sounds in Fundations! We talk about blending the sounds together at the end and we haven’t done digraph sounds yet.

We did art. We made a flag. (Britt)

We did Daily 5. (Madelynn)

We did read aloud. Mrs. Hotchkiss read a Jan Brett book called The Umbrella. It had pictures in the borders. (Maclyn)

We did 2 poems. One was like a song and one had 100 words. (Blake)

We had a guest reader which was Sky’s brother and Landon’s 3rd grade buddy. (Dempsey)

Here is what we did today!

It was the 100th day of school today! (Madelynn)

We did music. (Britt)

We made a 100 day of school snack. It had 100 pieces. (Isaac)

We read a book called Jake’s 100th Day of School. (Brooklynn)

We did the schedule. (Ismael)

We shared our 100 collections. (Blake)

We did math. We counted to 100 with the collections. We got to stand up and tell the class how we figured how we had 100. (Maclyn)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We did the weather. It was 24 degrees and cloudy this morning. (Ismael)

We did writing. We wrote about our favorite thing about the first 100 days of school. (Emma)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp and a couple counting to 100 brain breaks. (Blake)

We did 100 exercises. We did 10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, 10 lunges, 10 side lunges, and lots of other exercises until we got to 100! (Carmel Grace)

We did morning meeting and now we are doing closing meeting and snack. (Joshua)

We got in a circle for morning buzz and whenever we had the cub we got to say our favorite thing we do on the playground. (Brooklynn)

We did math. We played 10 Bears on a Bus. We used cards instead dice. We wrote an addition sentence. (Emma)

Reminders!

Monday is the 100th day! There is a reminder note in the folder today.

Reading bags are coming home today (if your student returned their bag last Friday). Please have your student read these to you this weekend and return these books on Monday. There is an additional book in the bag called “The Mitten” we have not read this book together. This would be a great book to practice word solving strategies on! Here is a link!

Here is what we did today!

We celebrated Emma’s half birthday. We got to have cookies! (Isaac)

We did the calendar. We moved the yesterday, today, and tomorrow cards. (Ismael)

We did math. We played Count Around the Circle. We used the counting cub. Whoever said 10 or 20 had to sit down. Maclyn won! We played Monster Squeeze on the SmartBoard. We wrote the number of fingers on the math page. We got to make up our own teen number. (Russell, Dempsey, and Brooklynn)

Today is Cocoa Night! (Dempsey) Hope to see you tonight between 4:30-6 pm!

Brooklynn earned 100 points on Class Dojo! (Emma)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We did counselor. Ms. Baker read us a book about tattling and telling. You should tell a teacher if someone is hurt, someone is in danger, someone is being bullied, or someone is sick. (Joshua)

We worked on our project. We cut out our animals from the story The Mitten. We glued them to popsicle sticks. We are going to act it out tomorrow. We are going to tell it in order of first, next, then, and last. (Emma)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We did art. We made 5 fish. (Isaac)

We did Fundations. We learned the letter z. (Britt)

We did math. We played a game where we had a strip of paper that went all the way up to 20. We had cubes. You would roll the dice. It said +1, +2, or +3 and you would add the cubes to the cube train. (Russell)

We read a book. It was called The Mitten. We made a project. We had to make a mitten and animals. We are going to cut the animals out tomorrow. (Brooklynn and Dempsey)

We did our poem My Missing Mitten. (Madelynn)

We did writing. We made a list of sentence starters. We wrote stories about specials. We used our chart with school words. (Emma and Maclyn)

We did days in school. Today is 97. We have 3 more school days until 100 days of school. (Ismael)

We did the weather. (Audylynn)

Parent Teacher Conferences will be February 12-15th. Typically we do the same day of the week and time as the fall conference. I have attached the schedule. If you would prefer a different day and time please let me know ASAP!

Tomorrow night is Cocoa Night! I will have out some math games and STEM activities for your child to show you! Come and go as you would like between 4:30-6 pm.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did music. We pretended that feathers were snow. We did the book The Snowy Day. We played a game. Miss Rodriguez was trying to catch us. If she got us we had to go to our table spot. We went downstairs into a different music room because the heater was broken in the other room. (Britt, Dempsey, and Maclyn)

We went to Makerspace. We made paper chains. (Isaac)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We did math. We learned about the plus sign. It means putting 2 things together. (Russell) We did a few story problems. We used snap cubes and then whiteboards to show our thinking.

We did writing. We made a list of school words like music, P.E., art, and library. (Emma) This will be a resource in our classroom!

We started a project. We decorated some mittens to go with The Mitten book. (Madelynn and Joshua) We will be doing a The
Mitten retelling this week with paper puppets!

We did Fundations. We did qu and we did whiteboards and Starfall. (Blake)

After lunch and recess, we did the poem. We talked about word chunks and we were trying to find parts in words that we knew. (Ismael) This is a great reading strategy! When your student gets stuck on a word they do not know, you can ask “Do you see part of that word you know?”

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did morning buzz and we talked about what we did over the weekend. (Blake)

We got a new student and his name is Ben. He speaks Chinese. (Ismael) Welcome Ben!! Ben speaks mandarin! We are excited to get to know him and watch him grow this year!

We did closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We did writing. We did Monday News. (Isaac)

We did Fundations. We practiced the letter q. It is always with the letter u. Q is a scaredy cat. He doesn’t want to be by himself. We did the vowel chart. (Russell, Britt, and Ismael)

We did math. We learned about the equals symbol. We played Top It but with number cards. If they were equal we would take 2 popsicle sticks and make an equals sign.  (Emma and Audylynn)

Mrs. Hotchkiss read us The Mitten. It was by Jan Brett. (Maclyn)

We did P.E. We did square dancing. The game was called Hot Foot. (Brooklynn and Emma)

We did the poem. The word of the week is “it”. The poem My Missing Mitten. (Carmel Grace)

This Thursday is Cocoa Night! Come learn about the math and STEM activities we do in class. Hot cocoa will be provided. The event will be from 4:30-6 pm. Come and go as you would like!

The 100th Day of School is quickly approaching!  Currently, the 100th Day of School is scheduled for Monday, January 29th (unless we have any snow days between now and then). Our class is planning a celebration for the 100th Day of School in which all learning activities will be centered around the number 100.

As a part of our day, our class will be creating a “100th Day Museum.” Please have your child bring a collection of 100 things to school on Monday, January 29th .  The collection needs to be small enough for your child to carry to school.  Some examples might include 100 paperclips, cotton balls, pennies, cereal pieces, ribbons, beads, toothpicks, pencils, playing cards, etc.  Let your child use his/her imagination to come up with a unique, one of a kind collection.

Our class will be displaying their collections on the 100th Day of School during math.          

In addition, on the 100th Day of School each student will create his/her own special snack of with 100 pieces of food (like a trail mix).  For this special snack, we would like to ask for  donations.  Please sign up using this link: https://goo.gl/dr8Mn8 Please send in your snack donations ASAP (we are still missing some items), so we can ensure we have enough snack for each student.  Each student will get 10 pieces of 10 snack foods for their trail mix.  Please make sure that your snack donation is enough for 20 students. Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did morning meeting.  (Ismael)

We went to library today and we checked out books. (Carmel Grace)

We did writing. (Maclyn) Our finished The Snowy Day books are coming home today! Have your student read it to you and retell our story!

Today we read The Story of Ruby Bridges.  She went to a school that only allowed white kids. (Audylynn)

We did closing meeting and snack.  (Xander)

We celebrated Maclyn’s half birthday. (Dempsey)

We did the weather and it was 32 degrees.  (Britt)

We had guest readers- Sophia and Alex. (Isaac)

We also played “Guess my word” with the whiteboards and worked on our word wall words!

In math, we practiced teen numbers by spinning a teen number spinner and building that number on a double tens frame! Each student would compare their number with a partner to see who had the higher number.

Social Growth and Work Habits updates are coming home today! Please look these over, discuss with your students, and initial before returning in the folder on Monday.

Reading bags are coming home today as well! Please have your student read these to you over the weekend and then return the bag with the books on Monday. To solve unknown words, we have been practicing using the pictures, getting our mouth ready to make the first sound, and looking for word parts that we know. When solving a word, we think about what would make sense and what would sound right. As we try a word, we check to make sure it looks right. We have also been working on pointing to the words to help us make sure we are getting the words right.

The Smartboard read us a book about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he was important. (Maclyn)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did library. We got to check out new books. We got to play in the computer lab. We came back to the classroom. (Ismael)

We did a project. We did a snowman looking up at the snow. (Madelynn and Isaac)

We did closing meeting, snack, and pack up for home. (Carmel Grace and Xander)

We watched a video that told us why snow is white. It is white because lots of clear ice is piled up together. Snow close up is not actually white. The edges look white. It is cool! (Russell, Dempsey, and Maclyn) Link to video

We did math. We cut out some cards and played a game with only teen numbers. We played Quick Eyes. We had 2 tens frames. (Blake, Emma, and Brooklynn)

We did the poem. We highlighted the word “to” and “is”. (Britt)

Students will be bringing home reading bags again this weekend! They are bringing home reading group books this week. These are books that we practiced together in reading group. PLEASE make sure these get returned on Tuesday so they have books to read at Daily 5! If your student did not return their reading bag they will not be bringing home reading group books this week.

I am also sending home the optional math homework from unit 5. We are currently on 5-5.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did counselor. We talked about how mistakes make your brain grow. (Isaac)

Today was a short day. We tried to squeeze in Fundations but we didn’t have time. (Ismael)

We did our poem but it was kind of short. (Britt and Carmel Grace)

Mrs. Hotchkiss read us The Snowy Day. We had to remember the order of the book for our project so we could retell it on a piece of paper. (Maclyn)

We did math. For math, we did a shape hunt. We looked for the shapes on our poster like circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles and bonus shapes like hexagons, hearts, diamonds, and trapezoids. (Dempsey)

We are going to do play time. (Wilson)

Today is Amane’s last day. (Brooklynn)

We did P.E. We reviewed some stuff. (Isaac and Ismael)

We did Makerspace. We made a circuit board. When we put it together and flipped the switch something would fly off!  (Russell)

We did Fundations. We did the letter w. We wrote on our Fundations whiteboards. (Britt and Blake)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We did our poem called Winter. We talked about our words of the week. (Dempsey)

We did our first page of our The Snowy Day book. We are working on remembering the order of the story. We are retelling The Snowy Day. (Brooklynn and Maclyn)

We did Daily 5. (Madelynn)

We played 10 Bears on a Bus. We had 2 different colors of bears. We pulled a card and what number we had we got to choose which color bear to put on the 10’s frame. We had to figure how many more to get to 10. (Joshua) This can also be played online after logging into the Everyday Math games.

We are having a popsicle party. We could pick cherry, orange, or grape. We really like them! Today was a good day! (Joshua)

We did Fundations. We learned the letter w. We did Fundations notebooks. (Blake and Britt)

We did writing. We did Monday News. (Maclyn)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

Some 3rd grade buddies came and read a book. (Amane) We will have a few 3rd grade buddies here each day to read with us during Daily 5 time.

We did the poem called Winter. Our Fundations letter is w and winter starts with w! We have 2 words of the week! They are “to” and “is”. (Ismael)

I sent home book box books on Friday! Please make sure your child returns this bag of books! New books will come home this week.

Ice Cream
Starting this week Kindergarten can buy ice cream in the cafeteria. Ice cream days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It is $.75. If you want your child to buy ice cream, please let them know. If you DO NOT want your child to buy ice cream, please let them know! :) They were told they can only buy ice cream with permission. This is completely on the kids for being responsible for buying it, so please tell your child if they are allowed to purchase ice cream or not. Thanks!

We did art. We made dragons. (Isaac)

We did math. We played Roll and Record. We got to roll 2 dice and our recording sheet was in our journal. (Ismael)

We made balloons and connected it to a paper and we made party hats and glued it on. We drew our faces. We wrote what we wanted to be good or better at in 2018. (Russell and Maclyn)

We did the weather. It was 16 degrees this morning. (Britt)

We did Daily 5. We could do read to self, read to someone, word work, listening to reading, or work on writing. (Joshua)

Mrs. Hotchkiss read a book called Snowballs. (Brooklynn)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We got 100 Cougar Compliments. We are going to have popsicles. If we put all the Cougar Compliments together we have earned 300! (Brooklynn and Britt) I will grab these this weekend and we will probably have them on Monday!

We did Fundations. We did the letter v. (Isaac)

We did Monday News. (Britt)

We did music. We got to do a brain break. We got to sing a song. It was an old song and we changed the words. It was called Going to the Farm. (Ismael)

We did math. We did a game called 10 in a circle. We changed it. We counted to 20 instead of 10. We played Missing Numbers on the Smartboard. Mrs. Hotchkiss would cover up a number on the 100 chart and we would guess the number that Mrs. Hotchkiss put a red square on top of. (Carmel Grace and Joshua)

We watched a Pete the Cat Groovy New Year video at read aloud. (Madelynn)

We made a list of things we can do in 2018. We made a party hat for a project we are going to do tomorrow! (Maclyn) We are talking about resolutions!
