Here is what we did today!

Today is Abby’s birthday! (James)

For the birthday treat we had lion cookies! (Aster and Abby)

We went to art. In art we got to use scratch paper. (Maya)

We did Fundations. For Fundations we learned Q and R. (Hayden)

We learned 3D shapes. There was a cube, sphere, cylinder, and cone. (Adalynn and Caroline)

We did project. We are going to make a moon. (Xander)

For read aloud, we read a book about the moon. (Caroline)

We did a GoNoodle. (Will C.)

Aiden was the teacher assistant. (Aster)

In the folder you will find some optional homework, including a few paper books your student can keep at home! In the backpack you will find a plastic bag that says “reading bag”. These are paper books that we keep in our book boxes at school. Please have your student read these 2 books to you over the weekend and then return the books in the bag back to school on Monday. They will be put back into the book boxes and read at Daily 5 time. The kids are very excited to get to read their books to you! These are books we have practiced in class.

Here is what we did today!

We are making a sun for project. It gives us light! (Abby)

We can’t live without the sun. It helps plants live too. (Hayden)

We did music. In music we sang songs and did a train. We switched who was in the front and who was the caboose. (Maya)

At math we counted backwards. We ate marshmallows to count backwards! (Caroline)

We learned about the sun. (James)

We did read aloud. We read a sun book. (Adalynn)

We did writing. We wrote what we would do in space! (Abby)

We did poem. Our word of the week is “in”. (Aster)

In Fundations we did P and O. (Caroline)

We did days in school and wrote it on the white boards. (Maya)

Here is an important note from our Art teacher, Mr. Gwinner!

As you may have heard, we are planning a project that will involve every student at Mill Creek painting a rock.  The painted rocks will be gathered together in a location to be determined on the school grounds—to create a large display celebrating the power of teamwork.  We will paint these rocks during art class but we are asking students to bring rocks to school for the project.  Students should bring 2-5 rocks that would be good to paint on.  Ideally, these rocks should be smooth (but not polished), round, and lightly colored.  Rocks should be small enough to easily hold in the palm of one hand, but not so small as to be easily held between two fingers.

Here is what we did today!

We went to the Planetarium for a field trip. (Abby)

At the Planetarium, the room was really dark. It almost looked like we were spinning but it was the lights. (Caroline)

At the Planetarium we got to learn about space and learn about all the planets. They showed real pictures of Pluto. (Hayden)

We did P.E. and we did square dancing. (Azayla)

We did Fundations. We learned the letters O and P. (James)

We made star constellations with toothpicks and marshmallows. (Rylan)

We did math. We got a string and we had a partner. We cut the string as long as our friend. We got to look around and find things that were longer and shorter and the same. (Aster)

We had morning meeting. (Parker)

We are going to bring our flags home today. (Evalynn)

We read a book about stars. (Maya)

We watched a little video about the sun and the stars. (Adalynn)

Just a heads up, Mill Creek was put under a water boil order this afternoon. I am not sure how that will affect your homes. Just wanted everyone to know! Thanks!

Hi Parents!

We skipped closing meeting today so we could focus on getting our projects done! We learned about the American Flag today!

We had Makerspace and made paper airplanes! This was a huge hit (as you can imagine)!

In Fundations, we practiced tapping some consonant, vowel, consonant words as a group! We also practiced writing capital M and N.

We practiced our word games and focused on words with the short i sound. We isolated the beginning sound of a few i words and then practiced words with the short i sound in the middle. We also have been working on word families. Today we did words that rhyme with “kit”.

In writing, we wrote about our weekend. We talked about adding details such as who we were with, where we were, when it happened, and what we did. We also started talking about how “interesting” words make our stories more fun to read!

For read aloud, we read a couple books about the American Flag. We focused on where we see the flag, why it’s important, and the characteristics of the flag. For project, the kids made their own flag! They counted out 7 red stipes and painted 50 white dots to represent stars!

I am looking forward to see you all at conferences this week! I will give you your child’s grade card at your conference!

We went to library. We read a book. We did cup stacking on the computer. When we were finished we could do any game we wanted. It is Mrs. Imhoff birthday. (Maya and Will M.)

We looked at a poster of U.S. symbols. (Maya)

We watched a video at read aloud. It was about the symbols. They were the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, the flag, and the bald eagle. (Rylan)

In math we had 3 pieces of paper and some candy. We sorted on one, counted and colored one, and we colored on the graph how many of each color candy we had. We got to eat the candy! (Aster)

We did math. We played a candy game. They looked like round chocolates and square chocolates. We could color them. We did story problems. They were fun! (Hayden)

We did mats. We wrote compliments on other people’s mats. (Caroline) We will finish these tomorrow. I will laminate them before sending them home! They are very cute!

We had P.E. We did stations. We had to pass the big ball. One station was called Money in the Bank. You stand on the money and you try to shoot it in the hoop. (Will M., Abby, and Rylan)

We did math. We played Top-It with dot cards. If you get the bigger number, you take the cards. If we get an equal, you play again on top of it and the person with the bigger number gets all the cards. (Hayden)

We got 100 Cougar Tickets and we got to go to computer lab today and we got to play ABCya and Starfall. (Aster)

In the computer lab we got to play JiJi. (Azayla) This is a great math program you can get to from the CPS Portal called ST Math!
