Hi Parents! Happy Halloween!

Here is what we did today!

We got to have parents come read to our class. (Kate)

We had a special snack. It was marshmallow ghost and pumpkin with pudding! (Zain)

We did math. We counted how many candy corns and saw which one had the most. (Lexi B.)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp. We have been in school for 50 days. (Blair and Crimson)

We had our 3rd grade buddies come and read to us. (Emily)  We partnered up with Ms. Lang’s 3rd grade class!

We got to wear costumes to school. (Livi)

We had an assembly. He was a storyteller. (Cordae)

We did music. (Adeline)

We played outside. (Lexie T.)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We went to art. (Livi)

Nurse Shannon came and taught us about germs. (Zain)

We did Fundations letters. (Lexie T.)

We did p and j on our white boards. (Brock)

We made a scarecrow project for the book The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything. (Kate)

We watched a movie about Sid the Science Kid. (Cordae) This went along with Nurse Shannon’s lesson.

For writing, we wrote about ways we can be safe in our community.

Announcements
Our Fall Celebration with Books event will be TOMORROW, October 31st. Students may dress up as their favorite book character for the day.  Please remember the following rules:
•No face paint or hair paint of any kind.
•No weapons, masks or gory costumes.
•Costumes must be appropriate for school and there are no “props” allowed that day.
We will also have storyteller Larry Brown doing two assemblies for us that day. 

I am attaching my updated PTC schedule (there are some changes due to parent conflicts). This will be sent home tomorrow. Please let me know if changes need to be made!

We are doing closing meeting. (Emily)

We had Fundations. We used magnet boards. (Tristan)

Here is what we did today!

We did math. We did an All About 3 page. (Zain and Emily)

We did P.E. (Crimson)

We met a new person today named Mrs. Zapata that taught us how to be healthy and strong. (Adeline and Brooke)  She is from MU extension and will be doing nutrition lessons for our class for the next few weeks!

We did 2 Fundations letters: p and j. We wrote the letters on white boards. (Anna)

We played outside. (Lexie T.)

We did the vowel chart. (Livi)

We did all 5 parts of the Daily 5! We had friends show us how to do all 5 parts correctly. (Kate and Riley)

We did a safety picture of being safe at school. We are making a book for the classroom library. (Blair)

Hi Parents!

Sadly, we ran out of time for closing meeting today! Today, we started 2 new Fundations letters: p and j! We wrote about our weekends for Monday News. We talked a lot of safety and ways we can be safe in our neighborhoods, cars, parks, school, bus, etc. We read a new poem about safety and read a book called Safety Counts! We also watched a short informational video on ways we can be safe. We have been working hard during Daily 5 and learned our last 2 Word Work games! We discussed different ways we can represent the number 2 in math. For example, we talked about 2 tally marks, second place, 2 o’clock, 2 friends, 2 on a dice, etc.

Friday is our fall celebration with books! Kids are welcome to dress up as their favorite book character! If you signed up to read on Friday, I will be contacting you shortly! I am waiting to hear back from a couple parents before I can finalize times. Thanks so much!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We went to Peach Tree Farms and picked out a pumpkin. We decorated our pumpkins with stickers. (Brock)

We got a new poem and we highlighted it. (Blair)

We rode on a bus. (Pritish)

Parents came with us to Peach Tree Farms. (Zain)

We fed the goats. (Lexie T.)

We got to eat lunch outside at Peach Tree Farms and we saw a lot of animals. (Riley)

We got to go on a hayride. (Randy)

We had art. (Anna)

Such a fun day! I will be putting pictures on my website very soon! If you have some great ones that you would like to share please send them my way!

Today in the folder you will find a behavior update. These updates were explained in the letter sent home last Friday. The updates cover a 2 week span of time. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please sign/initial and add comments if you would like!

There is also a letter coming home about parent teacher conferences. Please fill this out and return it to me asap. I will be doing conferences on that Wednesday night as well (not on the sheet) so if you would prefer that evening please let me know on that paper!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We went to library. (Anna)

We got firefighter hats. (Randy) The end of the day was a little rushed so some kids will bring these home tomorrow.

We did morning meeting and morning buzz. (Emily)

We met firefighters, a police officer, a construction worker, TV reporter, and a doctor. (Zain) Pictures on Twitter/website

Mrs. Hotchkiss called on friend to help with Fundations. (Lexie T.)

We wrote a sentence about teachers. (Lexi B.)

We had to match the right number of spots on a Dalmatian dog with the right number on the firefighter for morning job. (Kate)

We also read a book and watched a short informational video on firefighters! We learned about fire safety today.

Announcements!!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is a Student Council sponsored “Mizzou Day” in honor of homecoming.  Kids can wear black and gold!!

Our field trip to Peach Tree Farms is TOMORROW, Oct. 24th!
-We are planning on leaving Mill Creek at 10:30 am, arriving at Peach Tree Farms at 11 am and returning to school around 1:30 pm.
-Please send your child in jeans, tennis shoes, and a jacket. Keep in mind that we will be walking in the fields and your child needs to wear shoes that can get muddy!
-If you are sending your child’s lunch please send it in a plastic or paper bag LABELED WITH THEIR NAME. Everything needs to be disposable.  No lunch boxes/bags.
-For those that asked for a sack lunch, I will have those ready that morning!

Due to limited space on the buses parents will need to drive their own vehicles (or carpool). Parents will be responsible for supervising small groups of children and helping to keep “law and order”.  All children will ride the bus to be considered “present” at school.

October 31st is our fall celebration with books! I would love to have some parent guest readers come in on this day! This could be a favorite book from home or one available from our classroom library. If you are available and would like to read to our class on this day, please fill out the following survey! Please have this filled out by this Friday, October 24th at the very latest so I can plan accordingly! I will contact parent readers early next week with more details on the event!

We watched a video about police officers. (Zain)

We read a book about police. (Rilen)

We also talked about 9-1-1 today. This concept of emergency situations was scary for some of the kids! This would be great to talk about tonight at home!

We are having a dance party because all the classes got Cougar Compliments and filled up the cougar paw. (Riley)

Note About Girl Scouts:
Kindergarten and 1st Grade Families,
      If you were unable to attend the informational meeting to figure out a daisy troop we have some information for everyone in case someone may be interested but missed the meeting.
     Talitha Broughton and Carol Heffner have stepped up to be leaders of a combined K & 1st grade troop. We have seven girls right now so the troop is good to go. If your daughter is interested we will be meeting once or twice a month on Sundays from 3:00-4:30. We practiced Read to Someone for 3 minutes. (Kate and Zain)

We did morning buzz. (Pritish)

We played colors and shapes bingo. (Anna)

We made pumpkin Jack-o-Lanterns. (Blair)

We tried pumpkin seeds. (Tristan) I roasted the pumpkin seeds from our class pumpkin! We also graphed what we thought! Eight kids loved them, 6 said “no thanks”, and 3 thought “just ok”.

We had popcorn. (Livi) A yummy addition to our pumpkin seed snack!

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp. We reached 30 days of school. (Lexie T.)

Tonight is the Cougar Fun Fest. (Riley)

FIELD TRIP HAS BEEN POSTPONED!!! Peach Tree Farms informed us today that it is just too muddy to have a field trip tomorrow. Our new date is Friday, October 24th. Sorry for the change! If you volunteered to come, please let me know if this date does not work for you! We will send out more information as this new date approaches. Thank you for understanding!

We carved a pumpkin to see what it looked like on the inside. (Riley)

We did inside recess. We watched a movie in Mrs. Flanagin’s class. (Cordae)

We did the vowel chart. (Pritish)

We practiced our letter cards. (Livi)

We had a special snack for Emily’s birthday. (Brock)

We got to color the different parts on a pumpkin page. (Lexie T.) We traced the names of the pumpkin parts!

We got to feel the pulp inside of the pumpkin. (Tristan)

We did a pumpkin poem. (Emily)

We played a shapes game. We used position words. (Lexi B and Brock) We talked about prepositions such as above, below, beside, in, on, under, etc. To practice, each student sat back to back with a partner. Each student had the same 3 shapes. The first partner had to describe where to place the shapes in order to create the same pattern block picture (ex. Put the triangle beside the hexagon). Each pair then compared pattern block pictures.

I made a mistake on the October calendar. I am attaching an updated version. There is also an updated version on the classroom website under, “Our Classroom”. I will have these in the folders tomorrow.
