Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did math. For math we played a game called Counters in a Cup. You have a cup and a partner and your partner hides some cubes out of the cup and some in the cup. You write how many in and how many out. Our challenge was to write a subtraction sentence. (Connor)

We did writing. We wrote if we would rather eat fruits or vegetables. We were trying to convince someone to like fruits or vegetables. We had to use our reasons. We drew a picture. (Kate and Sophia)

Today was the 167th day of school. That is a lot of days! There are only 5 more days left in school. (Ginger and Sylus)

We did Daily 5. (Dylan)

For Fundations we did little cards, big cards, we did our vowel chart. We tapped words that end in s or x. We also talked about words that end in -es (Lyrik and Sylus)

We did read aloud. We read more of Mercy Watson Something Wonky This Way Comes. (James)

Here is what we did today!

We did snack. For snack we read Mercy Watson Thinks Like a Pig and then we started Mercy Watson Something Wonky This Way Comes. They go to a drive in movie. They had buttered popcorn and Leroy Ninker was selling the popcorn. (Mikayla)

We did writing. For writing we did another survey. It was would you rather eat fruits or vegetables. Then we wrote 3 reasons why we would rather eat fruits or vegetables. (Connor)

We did music. It was our last music. We watched the end of Sillyville. (Evan)

We did Fundations. We did big cards, little cards, vowel chart, and we tapped nonsense words. That means they are not real words they are silly fake words. Some people came up and made the words that we tapped. (Sophia)

We did morning buzz. We shared about what we want to do this summer. (Andrew)

We did Daily 5. (Jayden)

We did math. For math we played a game How Many More to Make 8? You rolled the dice. If you roll 4 you have to cover up 4 because that is how many more you need to make 8. Your goal is to fill the whole board up. (Kate)

We did program practice. We sang the 3 little pigs song. (Max)

Friday the 20th is the last day to return library books!

Important announcements for next week!

Sadly, my last day with the kids will be this Friday the 20^th (if the baby is not here by then). Miss Tappana will be teaching next week!

Monday the 23rd: “Hats Off” to Summer Celebration and End of the Year Assembly! Students are welcome to wear their favorite hat or pair of sunglasses to school for the outside assembly. They are encouraged to wear MCE sprit wear (dark blue and silver)! Kids are also encouraged to bring a towel to sit on during the assembly! They can keep it in their locker for field day!

Tuesday the 24th: Field Day! Kindergarteners will have fun in the sun from 8:30 to 9:50 a.m.  Remind your child to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes for all of the fun activities.  Your child may bring a favorite hat or sunglasses to school. You might also put an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks just in case they get a little wet. No swimsuits please!! Please apply sunscreen to your child before school on this day!

Wednesday the 25th: Field Day rain date and Kindergarten Program! Our special presentation by Kindergarten Students will be Wednesday, May 25th at 2:20 p.m. in the Cafeteria. You don’t want to miss it!

We will have seating in the Cafeteria for 250 people. Please be aware that there will be standing room in the back of the cafeteria after all seats are filled. When filling in seats please use EVERY seat available so that all chairs are used.

Grade cards will be sent home this day as well.

Thursday the 26th: Last Day of School (early dismissal)! We will be doing a fun Kindergarten rotation outside! Remind your child to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes for all of the fun activities.  Please apply sunscreen to your child before school on this day! We will be outside most of the morning.

Students will be released at 12:50 p.m.

Here is what we did today!

We had library. We did a math game. Jiji had to go past a cone into a new round. (Layla) The kids tried ST Math! This is a new online math program that our school will be doing next year!

We did read aloud and what we did for read aloud was we read more of Mercy Watson Thinks like a Pig. They had a tea party and Francine Poulet came and jumped off the tree trying to catch Mercy. (Andrew)

We did program practice. We did our songs. We did our sign language ABC’s. (Ginger)

We did writing. We had a piece of paper and we went around the classroom. We asked people if they would rather swing or slide. We had to ask 18 kids. It was called a survey. We wrote about what we thought about and we wrote why. (Kate and James) We are working on opinion writing!

We did math. We played a new game called How Many More To Make 10? You have a partner and a sheet. You roll a dice and you have to think about many more to  get to 10. Then you put a counter on the sheet. Like 6 and 4 make 10. (Sophia) This game is played to work on subtraction concepts!

We did Fundations. We did magnet boards and we did tapping. (Connor)

Here is what we did today!

Today for math Mrs. Hotchkiss found a new game called Cover Up. You have a partner and 10 counters. You cover up some counters with your paper and your partner has to figure out how many are under the paper. You write it on your paper. (Sylus)

For writing we did Monday News. This is our last time doing Monday News. It makes me so sad! (Connor)

We did read aloud. We read Mercy Watson Thinks Like a Pig. Mercy Watson smelled some flowers and she ate them. Eugenia chased her! (Miklayla)

We did program practice. We sang our songs. (Ginger)

We did Daily 5. We did one choice. We picked out new books. (Dylan)

We did P.E. We played a game called hockey. (Kate)

We did Fundations. We tapped some words and wrote a sentence on the white boards. (Andrew)

We did math. We played a game How Many Am I Hiding? There were 10 cubes and we put some behind out back. We had to figure out how many were hiding. We recorded. (Kymiah and Malai)

We did art. We painted our flower in a pot. We did the background and the table.  (Sophia)

We did snack. We read more Mercy Watson Princess in Disguise. It was the 4th book. Some kids got to hold Mercy Watson. We met new characters Frank and Stella. (Sylus and Andrew)

We did writing. We played a game where we asked questions to other people. They asked questions back to use. They were like “Would you rather eat spider soup or mashed up caterpillars?” We were asking people’s opinions. (Mikayla and Andrew)

For Fundations we played a game where we had to pull out an object. You had to tap it and not blend the word. Kids had to guess what it was. (Kate)

Here is what we did today!

We did a rotation. We went to Mrs. Flanagin’s. We had a shooter. We had puff ball, a wooden block, a snap cube, and a penny. We shot them in the shooter. (Connor) We did a science rotation on forces and motion and focused on pushes and pulls! Each teacher did a different activity.

We went in Mrs. Reinkemeyer’s class and we played a game called shoot the marble. We had the marble and we shot it at a wooden block. We had to hit the other marbles. We had to count how many there were in all. (Sophia)

In Mrs. Russo’s room. We made a ball go fast with blocks and whiteboards and sandpaper. (Andrew)

We went outside with Mrs. Winn. Outside we talked about pushing and pulling. Someone had to push on the swings. We took turns. We practiced pulling with jump ropes. We went down the slide and someone pushed us to make us go fast or slow. (Kate)

In Mrs. Dixon’s room we had to set up the dominos. We had to give it a push. (Layla)

We got a book in Mrs. Hotchkiss’ class about pushes and pulls. We used balls and rolled them. We talked about a little force and stronger force. We made 2 balls collide. We looked at a toy car being pulled. (Sylus)

Today is Aidan’s birthday and we ate his birthday snack. We sang happy birthday to Aidan. We ate Thomas fruit snacks. We read a book called Mercy Watson Princess in Disguise. She dressed up like a princess. (Sophia and Kymiah)

Today in your child’s folder you will find some assessments from the past year. These papers are yours to keep! The assessments not in the paper clip are the most recent. Some assessments will be kept for perm records.

Here is what we did today!

We did writing. We learned about facts and opinions. We sorted facts and opinions on our paper. After that when we were finished we could write in our writing folders. (Andrew)

We finished the 3rd Mercy Watson book. It was called Mercy Watson Fights Crime. We went to the Mercy Watson website and played a game. We watched a video Chris Van Dusen. He showed us how to draw Mercy and he mixed paints. (Mikayla and Ginger)

We did Daily 5. We did 2 choices that we had not done yet. (Dylan)

For math we played Roll and Record. We had partners. We rolled a number and added 10 more. We colored the boxes of the teen number. (Kymiah)

We had Media. We made our own superhero. (Layla)

We did counselor. Miss Mielke asked questions and we had to answer it. (Kate)

Here is what we did today!

We did snack. We read Mercy Watson. We also saw the website of Kate DiCamillo (author) and Chris Van Dusen (illustrator) so we could learn more about them. (Layla)

Today we got to sort facts and opinions. It was for writing. An opinion means you believe it but not everyone believes it. A fact is always true like a cat has whiskers. (Ginger)

We did P.E. We played a soccer game. We had to kick the cones down without your hands and if someone kicks your cone down you have to put it in the basket. You have to run around the cafeteria. We talked about Field Day. There will be stations. Some will be water stations. One is a car wash game with a bucket. (Connor and Kate)

We did Fundations. We did our big cards, little cards, vowel chart, and we tapped some words with tr-, cr-, and br-. They are called blends. (Andrew)

We did Daily 5. For Daily 5 we got to do 2 choices. (Dylan)

After lunch and recess we went to the music room. We did program practice. We did the ABC’s in sign language. We are going to do it for our parents and our teachers. We will sing some special songs on stage. (James and Sylus)

We did Daily 5. We only had time for 1 choice. (Dylan)

We did writing. We did Monday News. You had to draw a picture and words. (Jayden)

For Read Aloud we read Mercy Watson Fights Crime. The new character was a thief and his name is Leroy Ninker. (Andrew)

We went to the music room and we practice songs and poems. We did ABC motions with our hands. At the end of the year we are going to show our moms and dads on the stage. (Kate) We started practicing for our K Program on May 25^th!

We did Fundations. We did our big cards and little cards and vowel chart. We did tapping. We learned about blends. We learned gl-, fl-, and pl. We tapped some words that have the blends. We had to use 4 fingers. (Sophia)

We did math. We used orange blocks. One rod had 10. We made numbers in the teens. We stood up if we knew the number. Some people wrote the number. We made the numbers with the blocks on the SmartBoard. (JR)

It was the 159th day of school. We have 13 days until the last day of school. We counted the groups the 10’s in the 100’s and 10’s and we counted the ones. (Connor and James)

We did the Bump math warm up. We had to say one more than the number. We got to wiggle, snap, and clap. (Evan)

We played Dot Addition for math. We had a partner. We used dot cards and 2 game boards. We made different ways to make the number on the board. (Sophia)

We did snack. We read Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride. We finished the 2nd book. Both books had funny things happen. This book had a police officer. They all had buttered toast at the end of the story. (Connor)

We did music. We watched Sillyville. We saw all of the colors. (Andrew)

We did writing. We made something special for Mother’s Day and we can’t tell you what it is. (Mikayla)

Today was the 158th day of school. We have 14 days until we go to first grade. (Max)

For Fundations we did our cards, our vowel chart, we tapped some words, and we played Hang Mouse. (Lyrik)

If your child is going to the new school next year or they will not be attending MCE, please make sure to fill out the blue form in your child’s folder!

There are reading books in the reading bags today! We do not have new books because of reading assessments this week. Please return these books on Monday!

Kindergarten Picnic

On Saturday, May 7^th (tomorrow)  all Kindergarten classes will be having a picnic to celebrate the end of a great school year.  This picnic will be at the Mill Creek playground from 4:30-6:00.  Bring picnic blankets, a picnic, play equipment (we will not have access to any) and whatever else you might need for your family.  There will be no designated eating time….just come, visit and have fun.  Bathrooms will be available. 

Rain Plan:  If it is raining at the time of the picnic we will just cancel.  However, if it is not raining but just wet, plan accordingly as the equipment, grass and blacktop will be damp.  We will not attempt to send an email….just use your best judgment. 

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there!! Your child might be hiding something in their backpack for you until Sunday!

We did media. We built with Legos. It was a learning man. And then we got to build whatever we wanted. (Andrew)

We celebrated Miss Tappana’s last day. We will see her in the building. We gave her stuff and we made a video of us saying what we love about her. She gave stuff to us too. We are going to miss her. Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did the baby shower. For the baby shower Mrs. Hotchkiss got a surprise from the whole class. There was clothes, toys, wipes, and bathtub toys and letters. She got a picture and everyone signed their name on it. And she got an “A” because the baby will be named August. Her baby will come out May 21st. (Kate and James and Kymiah) THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the goodies! I really appreciate it!! That was so nice of you all to think of me and my little guy! We are very excited! It was a great surprise!

We did math. For math we had a simple game. All you had to do is you had a partner and a piece of paper. You had to roll the dice and see how much you rolled in all on the dice. Then you color the butterflies in. (Sophia)

We had our dessert party. There was a lot of treats. We had P.E. so we couldn’t have too much treats or we would be walking slow. (Layla)

We did Fundations. What we did for Fundations was our big cards and little cards and vowel chart. We also did our –ake word family like shake and cake. (Andrew)

Today for writing we wrote a letter for someone special, but it’s a secret! Tomorrow we will finish it. But it’s for someone very very special that loves you. (Sylus)

After P.E. we went on the outside edge of the carpet. Miss Tappana released BB-8 from the new Star Wars movie the Force Awakens. She brought it because we earned 100 Cougar Compliments. (Connor)

We are so lucky to have wonderful parents like you all! Thank you for all you have done for Teacher Appreciation Week! We feel so spoiled! I will be putting up pictures on Twitter later this week!

For morning job we wrote letters to Nurse Shannon and Nurse Jackie. We drew them a picture. Today is Nurse’s Day. (Sylus)

It was the 155th day of school. (Layla)

We did read aloud. We read a book called Mercy Watson to the Rescue. We finished the book. Mercy Watson is not so helpful! Mercy Watson is a big fat pig that loves toast. The author is Kate DiCamillo and the person that drew the pictures is Chris Van Dusen. It is a really funny book. (Sophia) This is one of my favorite book series! We will be reading all 6 books in the series!

We did some made up funny words in Fundations. We wrote words on the whiteboards. (Lyrik)

Announcements!

Kids going to the new school!!

Kids leaving MCE to go to Ralph Elem. will be eating lunch with counselors during their regular lunch time on May 9.  If you do not want your child to attend please let me know!

Tomorrow is our dessert party! Thank you to all of the parents who have signed up to bring treats! You can bring your treat to the office before noon or drop it by the classroom first thing in the morning! I apologize in advance for the sugar rush!!

Miss Tappana’s last day will be this Thursday the 5^th! If you would like to watch the memory video with us and help us present her gift please come by at 2:30 pm! Thank you for all the gift card donations! We will have a great bouquet!!

May 2nd

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today:

For math we played On and Off. We used a bag of 10 cubes. We would drop them so some would land on and some would land off the paper. We wrote combinations. We wrote number sentence like 5 + 5 = 10. (Mikayla)

We did Daily 5. (Logan)

We wrote in our weather books. We did tally marks. We went through the book. We wrote about the weather for the whole week on the back. We drew a picture. (Kate and Sylus)

We wrote notes to Mr. Burlison and Mrs. Rawlings. We got to say thank you for a lot of stuff. Today is Principals Day. (Evan)

We did writing. We did our Weekend News. Two people got to share. It was Kymiah and Connor. (James)

We did music. For music we finished our video and we watched a little bit of another one. It was about a dog that goes into a coloring book. (Connor)

We did Fundations. We did our big cards, little cards, vowel chart, and played some game on the Smartboard on Starfall. They were vowel games.
