Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did math. We played Racing Bears. (Randy)

We did P.E. For P.E. we got to go into the gym and we played hockey. We took turns getting to go on scooters. (Emily)

We finished our 2^nd Mercy Watson book! It was Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride. It was funny! The police officer is funny because he asks himself questions and then he answers his questions. (Kate and Anna)

We did writing. We wrote letters to the principals because Friday is Principal’s Day! We drew pictures on the back. (Brooke and Aidin)

We did Fundations. We did big cards, little cards, vowel chart, tapping, and 2 fun games on Mrs. Hotchkiss’ iPad about sentences. They were called Sentence Builder and Jumbled Sentences. (Pritish and Kamri)

It is Rilen’s last day. Rilen gets to take home a Mercy Watson book! (Livi, Adeline, and Lexie T.)

We did Daily 5. (Aidin)

We went outside and ate popsicles. (Cordae)

Here is what we did today!

We had Mrs. Cardetti come and we made books. It was fun! It was her last day with us. She is very nice. (Kate, Anna, and Aidin)

We had lunch and we went outside. (Pritish)

We did math. We tried to make 10 with the arithmetic racks. We charted ways to add numbers. (Zain, Brock, and Brooke)

We did Daily 5. (Blair)

We had an assembly. The 5th graders sang to us! They sang Best Day of My Life. We sang along with them. (Livi, Emily and Adeline)

We did writing. For writing we shared our How To books. (Lexi B.) These will come home this week!

We did science. For science, we peeled off the seed coat of a bean. We looked inside. We found a baby plant! We made a little bean project to go with it. (Kate and Tristan)

We did Fundations. We did the vowel chart, tapping, and we wrote words. (Cordae)

We did music. We sang songs! (Adeline)

Tomorrow is our Popsicle party. (Anna)

Have a great night! Tomorrow is Rilen’s last day at MCE if your child would like to draw him a picture or write him a letter at home tonight they are welcome to give it to him tomorrow before he leaves! We will miss him very much!

Here is what we did today!

On Friday it’s Principal’s Day! We put paint on our thumbs and we put it down on a card and we will put grass on it to make it look like a flower! (Livi)

For writing we did letters to Miss Miller to tell her good luck at her new school. (Aidin) She was out sick today so we had the perfect opportunity!

We read Mercy Watson and in the story the police told her to pull over because she was driving the car! Mercy is a pig! Mercy flew out of the car! We are almost done with the 2nd book. We pass around the Mercy Watson stuffed animals after each chapter. (Emily, Anna, Kate, and Adeline)

We had art and in art we got to draw planets. (Kamri)

Here is what we did today!

We had library. Some people forgot their books. We had to do some days in the classroom for library. (Blair)  

We did math. For math we played Hexagons. (Aidin) We worked on taking a whole number and finding different combinations within that whole! We practiced asking our partners “What did you see and how did you see it” while looking at dot patterns.

We did writing. We did Monday News. We wrote about what we did over the weekend. (Emily and Livi)

We did science. We are going to do science outside. (Anna)

Mrs. Hotchkiss came back from Tennessee! We got to see her number and medal from her big race! She is wearing her race shirt. It was fun! We got to hold the medal. It was heavy! Some runners like to wear crazy clothes. (Adeline, Anna, and Lexie T)

We did read aloud. We read a book called Mercy Watson Goes For a Ride. (Zain)

We voted for our 100 Cougar Compliments celebration. We are going to do popsicles and extra recess on Thursday. (Kate)

Rilen brought cupcakes because he is leaving this school on Thursday. (Kamri)

Here is what we did today:

We did math and for math we made a recycling sort. Everyone had a piece of recycling. We did a graph and we saw how many pieces of glass, plastic, metal, and cardboard. (Emily and Zain)

We went to art. We started making sculptures out of clay. We had teams. (Aidin and Adeline)

We did Daily 5. (Pritish)

We read a book called The Earth Book. (Kate)

We wrote about ways we can take care of the Earth. (Lexi B.)

We watched a video of the Earth while we ate snack. (Lexie T.)

We did read aloud.  For read aloud we read 4 of the chapters in Mercy Watson. (Zain)

We did Daily 5.  (Livi)

We are going outside to play.  (Anna)

We had library.  For library we worked on our important book.  (Aidin)

We did writing.  For writing we made notes to our secretaries.  Their names were Ms. Heather, Ms. Nikki, and Ms. Cathy. (Adeline and Emily)

We did Fundations.  For Fundations we did magnet boards and consonant vowel consonant words. (Lexi B)

For math we played combinations of 10 or 20.  (Kamri)

If you could please bring in one piece of recycling tomorrow for Earth Day that would be great!

More information about the color run will come home Friday, try to return it by May 7^th before the fee increases.

Here is what we did today:

We went to Mrs. Russo’s room and learned about weather from the meteorologist and he taught us about evaporation.  (Lexi B)

We did P.E.  For P.E. we made a giant circle and there was a giant ball that we called a disease.  (Zain)

We did writing.  For writing we did Monday News.  (Aidin)

We did Daily 5.  In Daily 5 some of us had to finish our Monday News.  (Kamri)

We did read aloud.  For read aloud we are doing a new book called Mercy Watson to the Rescue.  There was a funny pig. (Adeline)

For math we did quick eyes hexagon.  For the hexagons we got to cover up the number or a combination that makes it.  (Lexie T)

We learned about living and non-living things for science.  (Emily)

When Eric Aldrich came to visit today he took a picture and he will be putting it on the news at 6:10 a.m. tomorrow morning on KOMU if you would like to watch.

Also if you could please bring in CLEAN pieces of recycling for our Earth Day activity by Wednesday morning that be great!  Thanks for all your help!

We did read aloud.  For read aloud we read a book called Rainy Weather Days.  (Zain)

We did morning buzz.  We got to talk about our favorite math workstations or what we will do for the weekend.  (Kate and Adeline)

Announcements

Guided Reading books are coming home today! Please have your child read these to you over the weekend. Also please make sure these are returned on Monday! I have attached a great resource on some things we work on in reading groups that you can do at home!

Earth Day Homework! Please have your child bring in ONE item that can be recycled (detergent bottle, soda bottle/can, aluminum can,  glass jar, magazine, newspaper, paper, plastic water bottle, small cardboard box, cereal boxes, pasta box, etc.). Please make sure the plastic items are labeled 1-7! We will be using these on Earth Day which is Wednesday, April 22^nd!

On Monday, April 20^th we will have a Girls on the Run day at MCE!!

If you are not familiar with GOTR, it is a wonderful program that I sponsor here at MCE! This program works to inspire girls grades 3-5 to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

The girls have been training since January to prepare for their upcoming 5K race! On April 20^th the girls will be doing their practice 5K at Mill Creek after school.

MCE staff will be showing their support for this great organization and all their hard work this season by holding an Athletic Wear Day (or GOTR colors: pink and lime green)! If your child would like to participate they can!! We are also working to raise money for their scholarship fund. If you would like to contribute this is totally optional! Teachers are donating $2 a person. Thank you!

Hi Parents! Here is what we did today: We did art.  In art class we got to draw whatever we wanted.  (Emily) Today is going to be arts night.  At arts night you get to pick activities to try. (Lexie T) We did writing.  For writing we wrote a letter to our third grade buddies as a class.  (Aidin) For fundations we did baby echo and big echo and family word ick.  (Lexi B) We did science.  We are learning evaporation.  (Anna) We had a guest reader come over her name was Piper.  She read Town Mouse, Country Mouse.  (Kate) We watched the being kind video made by the 2^nd graders.  It was about kindness and respect.  (Blair) We did Daily 5.  (Pritish) Tonight is art’s night if you signed up for it from 5:30 to 7:15!

Here is what we did today:

We did art.  In art we made animals with our fingers.  (Zain and Rilen)

We did writing workshop.  For writing workshop we did our third step and learned how to add comparisons to our writing. (Aidin)

We had a dessert party.  We ate LOTS of desserts!  It was really fun!  (Brock, Lexi B, and Tristan)

We played no excuse word bingo.  (Kate)

We had science.  For science we went outside to trace our shadows and had a partner.  We had red, blue, and green water and tested it to see if you could see colors in shadows.  (Anna and Adeline)

We did Daily 5.  (Pritish)

There is a field trip note coming home.  Make sure that the note is signed and returned ASAP.  There is also a Mill Creek Color Run Birthday Celebration note going home.

We had library in our own classroom.  We also didn’t get to check out books.  (Rilen)

We had an assembly.  The mother singers came.  They sang the yellow brick road and she’ll be coming around the mountains when she comes.  (Lexie T and Emily)

We did writing workshop.  For writing workshop we talked about putting tips, warnings, or advice in our writing.  (Aidin)

We did Daily 5.  For Daily 5 we picked our two choices and it was fun! (Cordae)

We did math.  We read a book called The Sleepover.  We tried to find different combinations of 8.  (Zain and Pritish)

We did science.  For science we learned about severe weather.  (Kate)

We did read aloud.  For read aloud we read a weather book called Clouds, Rain, and Fog.  Mrs. Hotchkiss read it today. (Adeline)

We did writing.  For writing we used our mentor text for our How To books.  The mentor text that we read was called My First Soccer Game. (Kate and Adeline)

We did math workstations. We had partners. (Aidin and Zain)

We did closing meeting. (Emily)

We had music. After music we had snack. (Anna and Rilen)

We did read aloud.  For read aloud we read a book called Energy from the Sun.  (Lexi B)

We did Daily 5.  (Livi)

We did Fundations.  In Fundations we did tapping and did the white boards. (Cordae)

We did science.  For science we measured temperatures and learned about thermometers.  (Pritish)

We did quick eyes.  We used an arithmetic rack.  (Blair and Aidin)

Also because of the map testing this week the students will NOT be able to check out books during library time.  If you want them to check out a book they can, but it has to be before school starts at 8:20.  You do still need to bring back books from this week though, thanks.

We did awesomeness and that was Daily 5.  For Daily 5 we did reading groups.  We did one on the carpet, one on the table.  (Anna and Lexi B)

We did science.  For science we colored a kite, and learned about the signs of spring.  (Aidin) 

We did music.  For music we did songs from Halloween and Easter songs.  (Zain)

We did writing.  For writing we wrote the steps of our How To books.  Some people finished their plan sheet.  (Kate and Blair)

We did math.  For math we played How Many More Make 8?  We had a partner and we rolled a dice and had to figure out how many more we need to get to eight from the number that was rolled.  (Adeline)

We did morning buzz.  For morning buzz we got to share our best joke.  (Emily)

We did read aloud.  For read aloud we read the book called Mouse’s First Spring.  (Cordae)
