We had so much fun today that we ran out of time for closing meeting!

We did a few songs about counting to 100 including our favorite, the Zero the Hero Stomp!

We read the book, Jake’s 100^th Day of School!

We counting out our collections and walked around the tables to look at the collections of others.

We made 100^th day glasses!

We made a snack with 100 pieces!

Attached is a February calendar. This is also coming home today. Our 100^th day of school will be Thursday since there is no school tomorrow. Make sure your student brings in their 100^th day collection on Thursday!

I have also attached a tentative Parent Teacher Conference schedule for the last week of February. I kept the same day of the week and time as the fall conference. If you need a change please let me know ASAP. If your name is not on the schedule, I will be contacting you to pick a day and time! Thanks!

We went to P.E. and played a game where we had to knock the balls off the cones. (Maya)

It was Adalynn’s half birthday and she shared her donuts. (Azayla)

We did Fundations and in Fundations we did tapping. (Evalynn)

We had project. We drew an elephant of different colors. We read a book about it. (Will C.) This book was called Elmer and Rose. We talked about what it means to be unique.

We had an assembly. Aster was the Cougar of the Month. (Caroline)

We had writing. We wrote about what we like about ourselves. We read Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun. We talked about how we are all different and that makes us special. (Aster)

We did math. We played a game. We had 2 dice. One had 10 and the other one had 0-9. We rolled them both. We said what we got and made it on the double tens frames with our partner. We talked about teen numbers. (Aster)

It was Parker’s assistant teacher day. (Abby)

We did read aloud. It was about skin color. (Maya) This is a great book called The Colors of Us.

We read All Are Welcome. (Caroline)

We wrote about when new people come. We talked about being good friends. We talked about making others happy. (Rylan, Alice, and Kennedy) We talked about how everyone is unique and different and we need to be welcoming to all! We wrote down ideas of how we could do this.

Somehow all the names on the 100^th day of school snack sign up were deleted! Hopefully if you signed up you also remember what you signed up for! If you don’t mind sending in your item by Monday that would be very helpful so I can ensure we have enough. Thank you!!

The 100th Day of School is quickly approaching!  Currently, the 100th Day of School is scheduled for Wednesday, January 30th (unless we have any snow days between now and then). Our class is planning a celebration for the 100th Day of School in which all learning activities will be centered around the number 100.

As a part of our day, our class will be creating a “100th Day Museum.” Please have your child bring a collection of 100 things to school on Wednesday, January 30th.  The collection needs to be small enough for your child to carry to school.  Some examples might include 100 paperclips, cotton balls, pennies, cereal pieces, ribbons, beads, toothpicks, pencils, playing cards, etc.  Let your child use his/her imagination to come up with a unique, one of a kind collection.

We had 2 birthdays! It was Kennedy’s birthday and Alice’s half birthday. (Caroline and Rose)

We talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he is special. We helped people solve their problems. (Aster)  This would be great to discuss at home as well! The kids had lots of questions!

We did our poem. It was called Snow. Our word of the week is “on”. (Maya)

We went to P.E. We played a game in P.E. You had to toss a ball in the cones or the hula hoops. If you made it, you got a straw. (Grayson and Caroline)

After snack, we are going to make snowflakes! (Hayden and Rylan)

We had inside recess. (Evalynn)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp. We reached a group of ten. (Azayla) Today was the 90^th day of school! The 100^th day of school will be on Wednesday, January 30^th now!

We sang the song Pizza Hut. (Maya) This is a silly song by Dr. Jean! Super cute!

Cocoa Night! We will have an Open House on Thursday, January 24^th from 4:30-6 pm. This is a time for your student to show you around the room and play some math games with you! Feel free to pop in any time in the time frame and stay as long or as little as you would like. This is a very relaxed event! Hot cocoa will be served!

Due to a problem with the calendar the following change has been mandated by the district’s central office: 

The day following Martin Luther King Jr day, January 23, will be a C day. Friday, January 18, is an A day. So essentially, we will be skipping over B. This will help re-align the calendars between secondary and elementary with the least amount of impact on teachers and student learning.

Classroom Needs!

To celebrate earning another set of 100 Cougar behavior tickets, our class voted to have a dessert party!! We will do this on Friday, January 11^th!! If you would like to make or send in a dessert, please reply to this email and let me know what you will be bringing! For my sake, please make sure it is something easy to serve! I will make sure the kids don’t get too overloaded with sugar! 😊

Our classroom needs several items next week as we learn about snow! We will be making fake snow one day and snowflakes with toothpicks and marshmallows on another!

On the 100th Day of School each student will create his/her own special snack of with 100 pieces of food (like a trail mix).  For this special snack, we would like to ask for  donations.  Please sign up using this link. Please send in your snack donations by January 28th, so we can ensure we have enough snack for each student.  Each student will get 10 pieces of 10 snack foods for their trail mix.  Please make sure your snack donation is enough for 21 students.

We learned about capacity. It means how much something can hold. We put cubes in containers to test it. The big container held 150 cubes! (Hayden)
