Here is what we did today!

We went to art. We drew dot pictures outside. (Ismael)

We got our 3rd grade buddies today! (Maclyn)

We made signs! We made a stop sign, a bike crossing, school crossing, and railroad crossing sign. (Wilson and Carmel Grace)

We did math. It was a counting book. (Madelynn and Russell)

We did our poem. We drew the pictures to go with it and put it in our poetry folder. (Brooklynn)

Today is the 30th day of school and we did the Zero the Hero Stomp. (Joshua)

We had Madelynn’s birthday. She brought pretzels for snack. (AJ)

There will be a Back to School Blues Assembly at 9 a.m. tomorrow.  The assembly will be outside on the grass, so please feel free to send towels, hats, sunglasses, etc. with your students.

On Friday, October 13th, we will be having an apple tasting day to celebrate all we will learn about apples! We will be trying all things apple and then graphing our favorites.  Please sign up for an item if you would like to help out and send it in by Thursday, October 12th. Thank you!

Here is what we did today at school!

We did our poem. We talked about how to be safe in our neighborhood. (Maclyn)

We did P.E. We played a game with balls and 10 pads. You had to run quickly. (Erin)

We did math. We played Count and Sit. It was harder today because we had to count to 28 and that person sat down. (Ismael)

We did a counting story math game. We had a cup and both people had 5 cubes. We put some cups in the cup and we told them a story and then we put how many we said in the cup. We would say like “I put 2 in and then I put one more in, how many do I have now?” The other person says how many cubes are in the cup. (Joshua)

We put a book called School Safety in our book box. (Carmel Grace)

Here is what we did today!

We did morning buzz. We talked about what we did over the weekend. (Isaac)

We did the letter “t” today. Mrs. Hotchkiss would hold up an owl named Echo and we would echo what the teacher said. (Carmel Grace) This is a new program we are starting called Fundations! Will be learning letter names, sounds, and formation!

We went to library. We logged into the computers and went to ABCya. (Wilson)

We did a fun activity downstairs with Ms. Stemmons. We connected connectors with straws and we made stuff as a team. We got creative! (Maclyn) This is a program we will do once every 2 weeks called Makerspace! Students get to be outside of the box thinkers and creators!

We learned about safety. We watched a video. You should always watch where you are going on your bike and wear a helmet so you don’t get hurt. (AJ)

We did math. We 5 frames on the smartboard. We did Quick Eyes with the 5 frames. (Ismael and Joshua)

We did our number board. You put dots for the numbers. You put 1 for number 1 and 2 for number 2 and it keeps growing and growing. We got to put beads on our boards. (Brooklynn)

We did our poem. It was called “I can be safe”. We did the word “be”. (Dempsey)

We did writing. We wrote about what we did over the weekend. (Wilson and Sky) This is called Weekend News! We will do this every week and I will save it for a portfolio of writing for you to have at the end of the year!

New math homework is coming home tonight! Your student is welcome to do homework 2-3. This does not need to be returned to me. We finished lesson 2-4 today so please save the other pages for later in the week.

Save the Date! Kindergarten will have a field trip to Peach Tree Farms on October 20^th! Parents are welcome to attend. More information will be coming home soon!

I am sending home Social Growth and Work Habits Updates today. I have attached the descriptions for your reference.  Please do not be discouraged if your student comes home with multiple “1’s” in some areas. This is very common for the beginning of the year because students need multiple reminders. Please take the time to talk with your student about these areas, initial the form, and return it in your child’s folder on Tuesday.

I also sent home the information from Curriculum Night if you were not able to attend.

Starting next week on Class Dojo I am changing the “needs work” marks to begin taking points away. Currently it just does a neutral mark and adds a note to their report. Just wanted to give you a heads up! Occasionally I will print these reports and send them home.

Tonight is also our Curriculum Night Open House from 4:30-6 pm! Come and go as you need to! We will be doing a math scavenger hunt and I will put out some math activities! Bring your student!! Many of the other grades will be doing scheduled presentations.

We hit our goal of 100 Cougar Compliments!! Your child may wear his/her pajamas all day TOMORROW Friday the 22nd!  Please make sure that your child is wearing school-appropriate pajamas and tennis shoes, since we will have recess outside. Please do not send house slippers with your child to school, as they are not safe for playing on the playground.

Your child is welcome to bring a small stuffed animal as well (the toy must fit inside his or her backpack and have the ability to turn any noisemakers off). Thanks!!

Please make sure your student is practicing their student ID number! Most students have these memorized! Way to go! Starting Monday the cafeteria will begin selling ice cream for students to purchase. Students must know their lunch number to purchase the ice cream! Some sweet motivation!!

Just a reminder, students are welcome to bring one book from home to keep in their book box to read during Daily 5 time. Please make sure these books on the smaller side (not board books) so they do not take up too much room! 

Also please make sure your student has a snack in their backpack daily. I do not have extra snacks. The nurses office has a few extra snacks but we would like to save these for kids participating in the Buddy Pack program.
