They can also split a roll. In other words, if a five is rolled, then the player can choose to move five spaces all at once or 2 spaces with one counter and 3 spaces with another.

This morning we did math workstations. We did new numbers with our partners. (Sylus)

Progress reports are coming home today if your conference is tomorrow or Friday. You do not need to sign and return the bottom portion. On your behavior updates you may have noticed an average score on the right hand side of the page. These objectives match the social growth and work habits portion of the progress report. The 2 score--Satisfactory: Student demonstrates skill/behavior "most of the time" with few reminders. The 1 score--Needs Improvement: Student needs several reminders to demonstrate skill/behavior or does NOT demonstrate skill or behavior.

Therefore, if your child received a 1.5 or lower average for an objective, then they will receive an “Area of Concern” or a minus on the progress report. If they are above this score they will receive the check or “Satisfactory” mark on the progress report. I have seen lots of process over this trimester but please remember these scores are from the beginning of the year until now. Many things can change over such a long period of time. Please do not feel discouraged if you notice your child has received a minus on the grade card. There is still lots of time in Kindergarten to grow!

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much!

Announcements

Parent Teacher Conferences are next week! I am attaching a copy of the schedule. Please let me know ASAP if you cannot make your day and time so we can reschedule. I will not be sending home behavior updates because report cards will come home on Wednesday. There is no school on Friday the 13th because of conferences.

I will be leaving early on Monday November 9th for a doctors appt. If there is a change in transportation please let me know by noon on Monday! Thank you!

Next week we are going to begin a “nutrition unit” and I need your help!  I am asking each family to find one picture for each of the following food groups:
•           Bread/Grain Group
•           Fruit Group
•           Vegetable Group
•           Meat/Protein Group
•           Dairy Group
You may look through magazines, grocery ads, etc. with your child to find the pictures.  Please cut them out and send to school by Monday, Nov. 9th.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10 we will feature the fruit group and will make “Friendship Fruit Salad”.  I would like for each child to bring a piece of fruit to put in our salad.  If you would go ahead and have the fruit ready for the kids to cut up, that would be great.  Here are some guidelines:
•It would be alright to leave bananas or oranges in the peel but if your child prefers the peel off of apples or other fruits then peel and slice it before sending.
•Obviously grapes are fine to leave whole.
•Put your name on any containers you want returned.

I will let the kids use plastic knives to cut the fruit into bite-size pieces before adding it to the salad.  We will wash our hands before preparing and eating our food, I promise!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Have a great weekend!

We played Quick Eyes. We had to look at the Smartboard at the dots and tell how many we saw and how we show it. (Sylus) This was a mental math game! We are working on subitizing. Subitizing is the ability to look at a number pattern and instantly recognize that number without counting. Quick Images can help students to develop understanding of quantity. Being able to conceptualize a number in a variety of ways will help students to use numbers flexibly, which is an important facet of number sense.
