Here is what we did today!

We had art. (Dominika)

We did writing. We wrote our opinion about what animal we like. (Emily and Ella McClary)

We went to the computer lab. We played on Mrs. Hotchkiss’ website. (Chase)

We are going outside. (John)

We had Daily 5. (Lauren)

We had a substitute come because Mrs. Hotchkiss had to go to the doctor. (Daniel and Josselyn)

We read Mercy Watson. (Alex)

We are going to have my birthday snack outside! (Izzy)

We did a bean paper for morning job. (Kaela)

Announcements!
Next week, we will be talking about taking care of our Earth! We will be doing a recycling sort on Earth Day. On Tuesday, April 22nd, please send in a piece of recycling with your child that can fit inside their backpack. This could be a metal can, paper, plastic bottle or container, cardboard cereal box, etc.

Here is what we did today!

We read a book called Mercy Watson Goes For a Ride. (Nathan)

We played a Mercy Watson game. We played the matching game. (Chase and Vedant)

We had Fundations. We had magnet boards. We did nonsense words! (Lauren) We practicing tapping and building silly words!

We had science. We looked inside of a bean! We saw a baby plant and the baby plant food. The food for the plant was called the food storage. We got to peel off the seed coat. (Claire, Charley, and Anthony)

We had Daily 5. (Kaela)

We had music. We did the parachute. (Izzy and Ella McClary)

We had writing. We labeled a bean and we got to make a bean. (Ishaan)

We did math. We took away numbers. We counted how many there were left over. (Aidan)

We talked about STOP with Miss Pence and Miss Miller. (Daniel) This is a problem solving strategy. We discussed talking about the problem, talking about our options, and then picking the best option to solve the problem.

We made an iMovie and posted it on my YouTube channel about living and non-living things! I took the pictures from our nature walk yesterday and recorded some of the kids explanations of why the item in the picture was a living or non-living thing! Enjoy! Here is what we did today!

We are going to go on a nature walk. We are looking for non-living things and living things. (Ella McClary) We took pictures of living and non-living things that we found. We will be making these pictures into an iMovie about living and non-living things tomorrow!

We had writing. We wrote opinions about what we like to do outside. (Ishaan)

We had Fundations. We tapped words. (Kaela)

We had math workstations. (Alex)

We had math. We learned how to do subtraction. (Audrey) To introduce subtraction, we talked through a few stories about separating. For example, we talked about if there were 6 ducks in a pond and 2 flew away, how many would be left? We practicing counting the pictures to help figure out how many were left in the story.

We read a book called Mercy Watson to the Rescue. The parents are going to fall through the floor but we think the firefighters are going to save them. (Audrey)

We had writing. We wrote our opinion about recess. (Izzy)

We did math. We had a group of 10 and another number to make a whole. We made a number sentence. (Nathan and Anthony)

We had Daily 5. (Emily)

We had Fundations. We tapped out words. We did the short vowel sound and the long vowel sound. (Alex)

We had morning job. We counted the boxes and put it with the right numbers. (Jenna)


We watched a living and non-living video. To tell if it living it is probably moving and breathing. (Josselyn)

We had writing. We wrote about what we did over the weekend. (Izzy)

We read a book called Mercy Watson To The Rescue. She is crazy! She is a pig who loves toast! (Ella McClary) This is one of my favorite children’s book series from Kate DiCamillo!

We had Daily 5. (Ishaan)

We had Fundations. We talked about the –ck digraph and we did magnet boards. (Kaela and Anthony) We talked about how when we hear a short vowel sound and then a /k/sound at the end it is a –ck digraph!

We had math. We broke cubes into 2 parts. (John)

We did math workstations. (Emily)

We had funny weather. There was rain and snow in Spring! (Ella Murray)

We did science. We talked about living and non-living things. (Josselyn and Claire)

We had morning job. We graphed eggs. (Jenna)

Here is what we did today!

We had music. We watched animusic. (Aidan)

We had writing. We wrote letters to the 4th graders. They are doing a MAP test. (Izzy and Ella McClary)

We had Fundations. We did white boards. (Lauren)

We are going to go outside. (Vedant)

We got to see pictures of Claire’s new dog. (Anthony)

We had Daily 5. We got to bring some of our Daily 5 books home for the weekend. (Kaela and Charley) This weekend we are trying something new! Your student will be coming home with a plastic bag that contains 2 reading group books of their choosing! To help your children practice their reading strategies, please have your student read these books to you this weekend! Please have your student return these books on Monday so we can have them in our book boxes for Daily 5 time. Enjoy!!

Next week we are sending letters of encouragement to Mrs. Kinkade’s 4th graders for MAP testing! I thought it would be fun to send the letters with a “Smarties” candy attached! If you would like to donate a bag of Smarties for Monday please reply to this email!

Here is what we did today!

We had P.E. (Ishaan)

We had science. One cup got evaporated by the sun and one didn’t! (Daniel) We put 2 cups of water by the windowsill. Each cup had a thermometer and were filled to the same water level. However, one cup was covered in plastic wrap. We noticed that by the end of the day the water level of the cup without plastic wrap was below the line that was drawn and was lower than the other cup! We talked about evaporation and how some of the water from the uncovered cup became water vapor! We also noticed that the cups were the same temperature as the air outside!

We went into the computer lab. (Lauren)

We had writing workshop. We did our opinion. We wrote about sliding on the slide or swinging on the swing. (John) Students decided if they liked sliding or swinging better and then wrote their reasons why.  We have been practicing using the word “because” in our sentences.

Miss Pence and Miss Miller read us a book called The Cloud Book. (Emily)

We made a cloud project with Miss Pence and Miss Miller. (Ella McClary) Students were able to pick one of the types of clouds that we learned about to make using cotton balls: Cirrus (high in the sky, wispy like horse tails), cumulus (big puffy clouds) or stratus (low clouds that are as flat as a pancake). We even had a few cumulonimbus storm clouds!! Ask your student about the hand motions that go with each type of cloud to help us remember!
