Here is what we did today!

Tomorrow is our last day of school. (Dempsey)

We had a guest reader. It was my sister, Isabelle. She read the book Thank You, Amelia, Bedelia. (Isaac)

We did morning meeting. (Xander)

We did music. We finished Mary Poppins. We sang a song. (Carmel Grace)

We had an assembly. The assembly had people playing the drums. Two teachers got to come up and help. Four kids got to come up too. (Brooklynn)

Tomorrow we get to wear a swimsuit. We are having a water day! (Emma)

We did Daily 5. We had time for 2 choices. (Blake)

After the assembly we lined up and gave the 5th graders a high five. They are going to a different school next year. (Maclyn)

We wrote about what we like to do in the summer. The summer break is about to start. We had a summer packet. (Ismael)

LOTS and LOTS of stuff coming home today!

In the folder you will find the grade card! A folder with your child’s collection of Weekend News is coming home as well. In the pocket of this folder you will find old assessments. Everything from the book box is coming home today as well!

Our water day is tomorrow! We hope you can make it! We will do a picnic lunch at 10:20 am and then play after! Students will need a swimsuit, hats/sunglasses, and dry clothes! Girls may wears their suits under their clothes to school. Boys can come in their trunks and shirt. Please apply sunscreen before school.

Tomorrow we will have early dismissal at 12:50 pm.

Here is what we did today!

We did a quick closing meeting with the last 4 kids in the room after the program!

We did our program. (Erin) Thank you for coming! They did great! I will put up some videos on Class Dojo if you were not able to make it.

We did bump up day. (Ismael) The kids got to meet the first grade teachers!

We did a movie! (Russell) Each Kindergarten classroom was playing a movie in the afternoon and the kids got to pick which room they wanted to go in!

We did math. We played Car Race. (Britt) We practiced decomposing numbers or taking a total amount and breaking it apart.

Lots of things coming home today!! Mostly it is resources for the summer! Their beginning of the year writing folders are coming home as well! Please send in Take Home Folders on Monday. I will be sending home grade cards on Monday.

Here is what we did today!

We did library. We got to play on the computers for the last time. We got to do capstone, links, ABCya, or STMath. (Brooklynn)

We did Fundations. This was our last Fundations. We did our magnet boards. We practiced long and short vowel sounds. Long vowel sounds are when the vowels say its name. (Isaac)

We did math. We played a game called 20’s frame memory. You had to take the number that you had and match it to the 20’s frame. If you got it right then you got to keep it and put it in a pile. (Dempsey)

We did counselor. We got to play a game called Summer Bingo. (Madelynn)

We did Daily 5. (Carmel Grace)

We did read aloud. We went to Mercy Watson’s website. We read about the illustrator and author. The illustrator sometimes has to draw Mercy 3 or 4 times to get her right. We watched a video of him drawing Mercy. (Emma) www.mercywatson.com

We did our program practice. We practiced our songs. Tomorrow parents will be coming in the afternoon. All the Kindergarten classes will be singing together. (Maclyn)

Here is what we did today!!

We did morning meeting. (Xander)

We got new Mercy Watson books! We had 6 different books and we got one of them to take home. (Carmel Grace) This is my end of the year gift to the kids!

We went to cafeteria and watched the 5th grade choir singers. We got to hear them sing. We got to sing some of our songs for a practice. We got to sing two songs. (Brooklynn)

We had a toast party! Mercy Watson loves hot buttered toast with a great deal of butter on it. You could have jelly, butter, or plain toast. Most kids had toast with butter. We had a toast paper where you could draw your favorite kind. We got to do a Mercy Watson word search. (Isaac)

Mrs. Hotchkiss dressed up as Mercy Watson! She was in a Mercy Watson outfit when she picked us up from lunch and recess! It was a dress, pink tail, tiara, ears, and pig nose. It was from Mercy Watson Princess in Disguise. We knew it was her because we saw her brown hair. She said she was the real Mercy Watson. She said Mercy Watson was going to come and it was Mrs. Hotchkiss! (Maclyn)

We did art. We did a game where you draw stuff that Mr. Gwinner tells you to. And we had free draw. (Madelynn)

We did writing. We did a paper of what was our favorite Mercy Watson book. We would say what was our favorite part and we would draw our favorite part. (Emma)

We did Daily 5. It was one choice. (Blake and Britt)

Today is AJ’s last day. (Dempsey)

It was AJ’s birthday! For his snack we had little chocolate donuts with rainbow sprinkles and powered donuts. He got a birthday ribbon. (Brooklynn, Dempsey, and Emma)

We read Mercy Watson. We read the whole 4th book! Now we are on the 5th. (Russell)

We did writing. We wrote about our favorite Kindergarten memory. (Isaac)

We did morning meeting. I am the caboose. (Xander)

We did math. We played Part Whole Bingo. You roll the 2 dice and add them together and see what number you have. You take the number in all and you make a cubes train. You can break it into parts or keep it all together. The game board has a place to put the cubes. You have to fill up an entire cubes train or you can’t do that move. You can’t take cubes trains off. (Maclyn)

We did Fundations. We tapped out words. We spelled words with the blends. We learned st- and sc-. (Ismael)

Here is what we did today!

We did Field Day! There were stations. There was one where we got to eat popsicles. There was a game called Mosquito Tag. You have a noodle and they try to touch others. If you get tagged then you have to pretend to itch. There is one station where you have a partner and you have a frog in your hula hoop. You take your frog and try to throw it in the bucket of water. If you make it you take the lily pad. (Brooklynn)

There was a station that had water. We had big soda bottles, a sponge, and a bucket of water. You would dunk the sponge in the bucket and run up to the person with the bottle on their head and you would squeeze it out to get water inside. (Maclyn)

We are going to watch a movie. It is Moana! Mrs. Flanagin’s class is going to be in here. We will watch half in here and the other half in the music room. (Isaac)

We did writing. We wrote about our weekend. (Britt) Our last Monday News!

We read Mercy Watson. We finished the 3rd book! It was called Mercy Watson Fights Crime. There was a thief named Leroy Ninker. He stole a lot of stuff in the Watson’s house. At the end Mercy was sitting on him! We are going to start the 4th book. It is called Mercy Watson Princess in Disguise. (Joshua)

I hope you can make it to the program on Friday at 2:20 pm in the cafeteria! Make sure you are a few minutes early because seating goes quickly! The kids are excited to sing for you! The kids can dress however they would like that day!

Here is what we did today!!

We did library. We played on the computers. We didn’t check out books. (Isaac) The kids are done checking out books for the year.

It was inside recess. (Dempsey)

We did math. We played a game called Dot Addition. How you play it is you have these little cards with dots on them. If there was 6 on your game board you try to find a way to make 6. On the 2nd round you find another way to make 6. (Brooklynn)

We did writing. We made something with popsicle sticks but it’s a surprise. (Britt)

For read aloud today we finished the 2nd Mercy Watson book. It was a whole bunch of pages. We moved on to the 3rd Mercy Watson book. It is called Mercy Watson Fights Crime. There was a robber that was stealing the Watson’s things. Mercy thought the robber was making toast. (Maclyn)

We did Daily 5. (Ismael)

We did our poem. We got to put it in our poetry folder and we got to highlight the word mom. We were comparing things to our moms. Like my mom is as pretty as a flower. It is called a simile. (Emma)

On Monday we are going to have Field Day. We can wear hats and sunglasses if we want. (Blake) Field Day is this Monday the 14th (rain date is Tuesday). The students will do lots of fun activities outside first thing in the morning for about an hour and a half. There are a couple games involving water. A swimsuit is not needed but an extra pair of clothes is a good idea (just in case). Please have students apply sunscreen before coming to school. Also please try not to be tardy since we will go outside right at 8:30 am. Thanks!! It will be lots of fun!!

Thank you SO much for all the wonderful teacher appreciation goodies! I loved all the wonderful handmade cards and letters from the kiddos! My “Super Teacher” book and cape are so cute! I also really appreciate the gift cards and gifts! You all are so generous! I am blown away! I am so lucky to have such wonderful students and supportive families! I have been so blessed this year! Thank you again! \

Here is what we did today!

We did art. We did free draw paper. We finished our still life. (Madelynn)

We made a surprise at writing. (Carmel Grace)

We did math. We played 5 in a Row Subtraction. We got to use a special dice with 12 sides. You roll 2 dice and you take away the smaller number. You see how much you have left. You cover the number on the game board. To solve it, you can draw a picture on your whiteboard, use your fingers, count backwards, or use the number line. (Britt and Maclyn)

Our counselor came. She talked about being bossy. We read a book called Franklin is Bossy. We watched the Franklin is Bossy video. We colored a sheet with Franklin and his friends. (Brooklynn)

We did Fundations. We had these small plastic buckets. They each had things inside that started with the same blend. A blend is where there are 2 letters together and it almost sounds like one sound. The 3 we talked about were fl-, gl-, and pl. (Erin)

We did Daily 5. (Blake)

We did read aloud. We read Mercy Watson. We finished book one so we are on book 2. Mercy Watson wants to drive a car so she hopped on Mr. Watson and he couldn’t see. Baby Lincoln hopped into the car and they didn’t know until she popped up and scared them. When Mr. Watson wasn’t looking that was when Mercy jumped on him. (Isaac and Emma)

Me and Carmel Grace got to hold the Mercy Watson stuffed animals. (Joshua)

Here is what we did today!

We did math. We played a game called 5 in a Row. It is kind of like Bingo. You have 2 dice. Say you got 3 and 4, you would add 3 and 4 together. On the paper you have to write the numbers and the number in all. On the game board you cover up the number you have in all. (Brooklynn)

We read Mercy Watson to the Rescue. The bed fell through the hole. The firefighters saved the mom and dad. Me (Erin) and Isaac got to hold the Mercy Watson stuffed animals. (Blake)

We did specials. We watched Mary Poppins in music. We had a sub. (Carmel Grace)

A guest reader came. It was Sky’s brother. Marcus read us Owl Moon. (Isaac and Maclyn)

We did the Mother’s Day poem. We put different words than we put yesterday. It was called My Mom. (Emma)

We did read aloud. We read Mercy Watson. Mrs. Hotchkiss gave her 2 little Mercy Watsons to Sky and Wilson to hold. In the book, the floor under Mr. and Mrs. Watson’s bed cracked. Mercy Watson jumped out of bed to get some toast. She couldn’t find any. She went to the neighbor’s house and the big sister didn’t like Mercy Watson and thought pigs should not live in houses. Baby Lincoln likes Mercy Watson. (Maclyn)

We did morning meeting. I was the line leader. It is my 2nd day. (Xander)

We did math. We played Counters in a Cup. Last time we used 10 and this time we used 8. You have a cup and you put some counters in it. The other person closes their eyes. Whenever they are done counting to 10. They have to figure out how many are in the cup. (Brooklynn)

Here is what we did today!

We did read aloud. We read Mercy Watson to the Rescue. It is about this pig that is really silly. We read 2 chapters. Mrs. Hotchkiss has a stuffed animal Mercy Watson. Brooklynn got to hold it today. There are 6 books of Mercy Watson. She is very funny! (Brooklynn and Maclyn)

We did library. We watched a silly video about penguins. We went to ABCya and keyboarding climber. (Madelynn)

We brought flowers for Mrs. Hotchkiss for Teacher Appreciation Week! There is a big blue piece of paper on the door that has Mrs. Hotchkiss as a super hero. Some of us dressed like super heroes today! (Landon, Russell, and Dempsey)

My mom made Mrs. Hotchkiss a cape and put up the door decorations! (Joshua)

Please join us for International Walk To School Day this Wednesday, May 9!  We are meeting in the Central Bank of Boone County parking lot on Nifong (across from Hoss's Market) at 7:25 am and will walk to Mill Creek from there!  There will be refreshments on the blacktop after the walk!

Here is what we did today!

We did art. We took the flowers that we made and the pot and glued it on to the paper to make a picture of a garden. (Madelynn)

We read two books about seeds. (Blake)

We had community helpers come. We had a police officer, firefighters, vet, new reporter, banker, and insurance person. (Emma)

We did science. We opened up bean seeds. We found the food storage and the baby plant.  (Carmel Grace)

We have the Color Run. The teachers will put the paint on us. Lots of kids are going to run. Baby Auggie will be spraying us too. Mrs. Hotchkiss will help him so doesn’t eat it. (Brooklynn, Dempsey, Ismael, and Maclyn)

Lots of fun (optional) homework is coming home today! There is also a living and non-living book you can keep at home.

Reading books/bags are coming home today was well! Please returns these on Monday! If you student did not return their bag then they are not bringing books home this weekend.

Social Growth and Work Habits reports are coming home today. This will be the last one before the grade card comes home on May 22^nd.

Here is what we did today!

We did music. We had our free day! There was a substitute. We watched some Mary Poppins. (Brooklynn)

We did a craft. We made a flower how it grows. Flowers are living things. They need air, food, water, sunlight, and soil. (Isaac)

We had a guest reader. Her name was Adeline. She read a book called The Day the Crayons Came Home. (Maclyn)

We did morning meeting. I did the days in school. We have been in school 159 days. There are 13 days left in school. (Xander)

We did Daily 5. Everyone got to pick 2 choices that they didn’t get to do yesterday. (Ismael)

We did math. We learned about 2 types of coins. It was the nickel and the quarter. There was a song that counted by 25’s. We also reviewed the 2 we did a long time ago. It was the penny and the dime. We got to see the picture of the half dollar. It is bigger than the quarter. We will learn more about money in first grade. (Dempsey)

We did read aloud. We read about plants growing. We read 2 books. One was called How Does Your Salad Grow and the other was called Seeds Grow. (Carmel Grace)

Here is what we did today!

We did P.E. We played a game where you had to knock down pins. If you knock down all the pins you win! If the other side gets one of your pins they put it on their side. We played PacMan tag. (Isaac and Xander)

We did morning meeting. We did the weather and the weather report was Maclyn. The temperature was 72 degrees and the high was 82 degrees. (Joshua)

We did math. We played a game called Dice Subtraction. How you play it is you have a tens frame. You roll 2 dice. The bigger number you would start with for your subtraction sentence. Then you would take away. Whoever has the lowest answer got to put an X on their tens frame. If you and your partner had the same number then you both get to put an X on your tens frame. (Brooklynn and Ismael)

We did Daily 5. It was a long Daily 5. We skipped writing. (Dempsey)

We did a sort. We sorted non-living things and living things. (Carmel Grace)

We did read aloud. Mrs. Hotchkiss read us a book called Living and Non-living. It showed us what things are living and non-living. It had real pictures of things. (Maclyn)

We did Fundations. We did word families and it was -am. (Britt)

Color Run Information!!

Shirts are coming home today! Kids must wear their shirt to participate in the Color Run! I encourage you to have them wear it to school on Friday!

After school we will have the kids go to the blacktop and sit by grade level. We will have one teacher help supervise our grade level on the blacktop. 

We plan to start promptly at 3:45.  We will line the kids up on the west side of the blacktop (starting with 5th and ending with K).  The kids will follow the sidewalk around the building to the bus loop, down to Sinclair, down Nifong to the west of the baseball area, around the soccer field, across the bridge, and back to the starting area. 

The kids should be able to go around at least 2 times, and hopefully 3 times.

We will blow a horn at around 4:05 to signal ending the run.  Everyone will meet on the blacktop for our Color Blast. 

Should be lots of fun!!

We did lunch and recess and it was super hot! (Russell)

We did read aloud. It was a book about living things and non-living things. Living things are like plants and people. Non-living things are stop signs. (Ismael)

We did writing. We wrote letters to Mr. Miles or Mrs. Rawlings. It is principal’s day today. Mrs. Hotchkiss delivered the letters while we were in specials. (Maclyn)

We did Fundations. We did word families. We used magnet boards. We made words that end in -ap. (Isaac)

We did white boards at morning meeting. We did a math number sentence with our lunch count. (Joshua)

At math, we played count around the circle. Mrs. Hotchkiss had a fake stop sign and she would hold it in front of us. Mrs. Hotchkiss would give us a new number to start at. We had to count from that number. (Dempsey)
