Here is what we did today!

We went to school with our costumes! We dressed like our favorite book character. We wore our costumes all day. (Ginger and Mikayla)

We got to read with our 3rd grade buddies. (Andrew)

Some moms and Mr. Hotchkiss came to read to us! We made our own snack. We made a pumpkin patch snack! (Evan)

We went to P.E. and did a dance called Johnny. (Ginger)

We got to play a candy corn math game and we counted them. We got to see which kind had more. We made a guess how many. After we played we could eat the candy corn from the game. (James)

For writing time we wrote in our writing folders. We got a list of family words. (Sophia)

Our Fall Celebration with Books is TOMORROW Friday, October 30! Your child may wear a costume to school (book characters encouraged). No masks, scary make-up, wigs, weapons or props--anything that could be a distraction. The costume must be something that can be worn all day.  Tennis shoes are encouraged. Since the focus is on reading your child can bring a favorite book or two from home as well as a small stuffed animal (it needs to be able to fit in the backpack).

Make sure to return your conference confirmation and pre-conference survey tomorrow!!

We made scarecrows. It was from the story about the little old lady who was not afraid! We put on the pants, the shirt, the pumpkin head, shoes, gloves, and the hat. (Lyrik)

In art class we did 3 creepy vegetables. We read a creepy carrots book. (Ginger and Dylan)

It is Jayden’s birthday. (Evan)

We did Daily 5 and math workstations. (Jayden)

For writing we did our writing folders. We talked about how writing time feels, what it looks like, and what it sounds like. (Andrew)

We did Fundations. We learned a and g. We did sky writing. We wrote the letter on the Fundations white boards. We had a little warm up time. (Owen, Mikayla, and James)

For morning job we got to color the parts of the scarecrow. (Sophia)

Here is what we did today!

We played the candy game. We counted the candy in our bags. We pretended like we went to 2 houses. (Andrew) This game is coming home today. It would be a great activity do to together at home. I would tell a story and the kids would fill the “’bag” with candy. For example, I might say, “At the 1^st house I got 2 candy corns and at the 2^nd house I got 4 chocolate bars. How many candies do I have in my bag?”

We read The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything. We glued the parts of the story in the right order. (Ginger and Mikayla)

We got to 100 Cougar Compliments. (Ginger and Jayden)

We compared names. We looked for names that were shorter, longer, and the same. We put our cubes trains with our names on it next to other cubes trains with names. (Layla and James)

We saw a fire truck. (Sylus)

We got to see all of the community helpers. We meet firefighters, a custodian, a weather reporter, a new anchor, a construction worker, and a baker. (Mikayla)

We did our poem about community helpers. We put it in our poetry folders. (Andrew)

We got to write about our favorite community helper. (Ginger)

We did P.E. We tried to knock the little balls down. When we get all of them down we get a point. When it gets knocked down you cover it up with cones. Then we pick it up and try it again. (Owen and Dylan)

Miss Reinkenmeyer’s class came to our class and we did a mixed up brain break for indoor recess. (Sophia)

We ran out of time for closing meeting today!

We had a great day! We did our morning meeting and for the 40^th day of school we did the Zero the Hero Stomp around the classroom!

We practiced out letters and sounds at Fundations time!

At writing, we wrote how we can be safe!

This afternoon, we celebrated earning 100 Cougar Compliments with our movie and popcorn party! What a fun event!

The class went to art and we ended the day by finishing the movie!

TONIGHT is Cougar Fun Fest! I recommend parking at Woodcrest Church and walking over! The event is very busy but very fun!

We learned the game Grab and Count: Which is More? (James and Dylan)

We picked out new books from the classroom library. (Owen)

We are trying something new. We are getting points and not points. (Andrew) This is a new behavior system I am trying this week! Classroom DoJo is an app that comes highly recommended by teachers. There is a note coming home today explaining more! The kids earn positive points for behaviors like staying on task and following directions and points are taken away for disrespect, unsafe body, talking about of turn, etc. Parents are able to log in and see how their child did each day! Please follow the directions from the folder and visit www.classdojo.com/parents to set up an account. This way you see the points/reports and I send messages about specific behaviors. We will see if we like it!

I am looking for a last minute donation of small, plastic, disposable water bottles for the field trip tomorrow! If you would be willing to purchase these please let me know! The kids get very thirsty by the end of the trip! We would need 20 bottles. If you are coming on the field trip you could bring these with you or, if you are not, you could send them in the morning. Thank you!

Tomorrow is our black and gold spirit day! Encourage your student to wear their Mizzou gear in honor of homecoming!

Our Walk to School day is THIS Wednesday, October 7th.  We will meet at the Central Bank of Boone County and start walking to school at 7:30.

Peach Tree Farms Field Trip Reminder

Our field trip to Peach Tree Farms is THIS Friday, Oct. 9th!

•We are planning on leaving Mill Creek at 9:00 am and returning to school around 1:30 pm.

•Please send your child in jeans, tennis shoes, and a jacket. Keep in mind that we will be walking in the fields and your child needs to wear shoes that can get muddy!

•If you are sending your child’s lunch please send it in a plastic or paper bag LABELED WITH THEIR NAME. Everything needs to be disposable.  No lunch boxes/bags.

•For those that asked for a sack lunch, I will have those ready that morning!   

•**Due to supervision and safety of the Kindergarteners, siblings are NOT allowed on the trip. **

•Parents must pay a $4 entry fee into the pumpkin patch. Please turn this in ASAP.

Due to limited space on the buses parents will need to drive their own vehicles (or carpool).  Parents will be responsible for supervising small groups of children and helping to keep “law and order”.  All children will ride the bus to be considered “present” at school.

Your child may wear his/her pajamas all day!  Please make sure that your child is wearing school-appropriate pajamas and tennis shoes, since we will have recess outside. Please do not send house slippers with your child to school, as they are not safe for playing on the playground. Your child is welcome to bring a small stuffed animal as well (the toy must fit inside his or her backpack and have the ability to turn any noisemakers off). We did a new book for book box. It was called Fall is Here. (Ginger)

We read a counting book. (Kate)

We got to do the Fundations magnet boards. We got to explore with the magnet letters and Mrs. Hotchkiss gave us clues and we had to guess the letter. (Sophia)

We did Daily 5. (Mikayla and Jayden)

We read a book during snack called Colors of Fall. (Malai)

We did a leaf page and we wrote about what we liked about fall. (Evan)
