Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

Miss Miller showed us the eggs. We got to touch the eggs from our experiment. The vinegar egg was squishy! The one in the water was white. The eggs in the coke and coffee were brown. We have to remember to brush our teeth. (Blair and Lexie T.)

We got 100 Cougar Compliments! We are going to have a movie and popcorn party. (Zain) This will be next Friday!

We did writing. We did the last page of our book. (Emily and Kate)

In Fundations we learned the –ck digraph. (Aidin and Anna)

We had library. We picked books. (Cordae)

We did Daily 5. Some people got to do reading groups. We did 2 choices. (Lexi B.)

Student Council came to give announcements. (Livi)

We did Quick Eyes in math. (Adeline)

I am looking forward to meeting with you tonight or tomorrow morning if I have not already. No school tomorrow because of conferences!

Here is what we did today!!

We are doing an experiment. We put eggs in vinegar, coffee, soda, and water. We want to see what will happen to the egg because it is kind of like our teeth. (Blair)

We read a book called Nice Try, Tooth Fairy. The girl wants to get her tooth back. (Kamri)

We had P.E. (Rilen)

We did writing. For writing, we did the second page of our book. We used the word “next” on this page. We used our plan sheet to help us remember what we did. We are working on being better writers. (Kate, Anna, Adeline, and Emily)

We did Fundations. We did wh and th. (Aidin)

Here is what we did today!

We had a dentist come to our classroom. It was fun! We got to brush a stuffed dinosaur floss-a-saurus’ teeth. (Blair and Kate)

We got a paper sheet and goodie bag from the dentist. Mrs. Flanagin’s class came too. (Rilen and Zain)

We had Lexi B.’s birthday. She brought fruit snacks. (Livi and Adeline)

We had music. We did beats with sticks. (Anna and Emily)

For Fundations we learned digraphs. We tapped out words with digraphs. We learned ch and sh. (Aidin)

We did a smartboard game about our teeth. (Brock)

We did Daily 5. (Cordae)

Miss Miller read 2 books today. One was Tooth Trouble and the other was Moose’s Loose Tooth. They were funny! (Kamri and Kate)

It was Monday News today. We wrote about this weekend. (Blair)

We got a little book called The Pledge of Allegiance. (Aidin)

We got to go to the book fair and look at books. (Kate)

Before school, at lunch, or after school you can go to the book fair with mom or dad. (Livi and Adeline)

Next week we will have our field trip to the Rock Bridge High School Planetarium! You do not need to fill out a permission slip for your child to attend. We are looking forward to learning about space!

We learned about American symbols and we made our own flag. It had 13 stripes because of 13 colonies. We did a dot for each star. Each star means 1 state. It has 50 stars. (Blair and Rilen)

We did Daily 5. We did the choice chart. (Aidin and Zain)

We got to have outside recess. It was really exciting. (Kate and Adeline)

We read a book called My Flag. (Livi)

We went to library. We checked out a book and went on the computers. We played games. (Lexie T. and Riley)

Here is what we did today!

We watched a video about different American symbols. There was a talking bald eagle in the video! They talked about the most important American symbols like the Liberty Bell, American Flag, Statue of Liberty, and the bald eagle. (Lexie T., Adeline, and Brock)

We went to P.E. In P.E., Coach taught us how to use a jump rope. She taught us every step of how to jump rope. (Aidin, Zain, and Kamri)

A guest reader came. Her name was Piper. The book was Splat the Cat and the Surprise Snow Day. She always reads funny books. (Livi, Adeline, and Kate)

We played a math game called One More and One Less. (Kamri)

Miss Miller taught us the important symbols of America. We learned what a symbol is. (Kate)

We had morning meeting and closing meeting. (Kate and Kamri)

We are writing who our Vice President would be, who would live in the White House with us, how we would help people, and what pet we would have if we were the President. (Brock)

We read a book called Grace for President. (Kate)

We learned about Abraham Lincoln. We read a book about his life. He was the 16th President. He was really famous because he ended slavery. He died in a sad way. (Kamri, Brock, and Blair)

We did our first page of our book. We wrote our opening sentence. (Tristan)

We did math. For math we did a 100 chart. We found 1 more and 1 less. (Adeline)

We had Crimson’s birthday snack. We had chocolate chip and marshmallow cookies. (Kamri)

We ran out of time for closing meeting today but we had a great day full of fun and learning!

We decorated Valentine’s bags, passed out cards/goodies, we wrote a special coupon book, and played some fun Valentine’s math games.

You will find a copy of one of the games in your child’s folder tonight if you would like to play at home! If your child would like to do some writing over the long weekend, I put a friendship book in the folder as well.

You will find a bi-weekly update, a conference confirmation (please return this ASAP), and lots of great work in the folder.

We made word wall word flash cards. (Brock)

We did P.E. We played a new tag game called Healthy Habits where we became germs if we got tagged. It was good exercise. (Brooke and Lexie T.)

We read a book called One Zillion Valentine’s. (Livi)

Guest readers came. They read Happy Valentine’s Day Little Critter. (Zain)

We did Daily 5. We love Daily 5. (Aidin and Anna)

We did writing. For writing, we wrote an opening sentence for our stories. (Kate)

We did math. We used the colors red and pink to find a hidden heart in the numbers. (Kamri)

For Fundations we did tapping. We tapped words in the –et word family. We wrote W and X on our white boards. (Blair)

Please have your child bring valentine cards for each child in the class.  If you need cards please let us know because we have plenty of extras! Please have your child write their name on the cards as well as the name of the person they are giving the card to (on the envelope and/or designated spot on the card).  First names are fine.  Let your child do as much of the writing as possible (good handwriting practice)!  Then have them bring all of their cards to school in some type of bag (paper bag, Wal-Mart bag, Ziploc, etc.) with their name on the outside.  We will be passing these out tomorrow before the party.  We will be decorating valentine sacks here at school so there is no need to bring in a sack or box from home.  Let us know if you have any questions!

We did Fundations. For Fundations we wrote the letters U and V. (Kate)

We did Daily 5 with one choice. (Anna)

We did math. For math we played in the heart and out of the heart. We dropped 10 counters and had to count how many fell in and how many were out. (Lexie T.) They used a recording sheet to write down the combinations of 10!

We had our 3rd grade buddies come and we made Valentine heart bags. We paired up with the buddies to make bags. (Brock, Adeline, and Livi)

We had a fire drill. (Kamri)

We read Franklin’s Valentine. (Blair)

We went to music. We listened to Play It Mr. Toot. (Aidin and Kamri)

If you brought one dollar you could wear a hat for the American Heart Association. (Zain and Emily)

We had my birthday snack! (Rilen)

Tomorrow is all about keeping our hearts healthy by moving our bodies! The kids are encouraged to wear their exercise clothes!!

Thursday is the Valentine’s party! Parents (no siblings please) are welcome to join the fun from 2:30-3 pm. Thanks!

We did read aloud. The book was called Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink. (Lexie T.)

We did surveys for math. The class got to ask the questions. We got to go around and ask our friends questions. (Aidin and Kate)

It was Mrs. Hotchkiss’ birthday and we got to have smoothies! It was strawberries and apple juice. It was really good! It was the best smoothie in the whole wide world. (Blair, Lexie T., and Kate)

We did library. We checked out books. It was fun. Almost everyone got a book. (Anna, Rilen, and Livi)

We did daily 5. (Zain)

We asked questions in math. We took surveys. We asked if you have ever tired a smoothie and if you want a smoothie. (Kamri)

We did morning meeting. (Emily)

We did writing. In writing we did a new plan sheet. We planned who and when. (Cordae)

We read The 3 Little Dassies. It was like the 3 Little Pigs. (Aidin)

I am working on the Parent Teacher Conference schedule for February 23-27. If you attended a conference on Wed, Thurs, or Friday in the fall please reply back if you would be interested in a Monday or Tuesday afternoon conference instead. I have some extra availability!

We went to P.E. It was fun because we had new stations. Our stations were hockey, golf, baseball, and Frisbee. Coach showed us how to do each station. (Aidin, Kamri, Anna, and Rilen)

We had indoor recess. It was in Mrs. Flanagin’s room. We colored and played with blocks. (Blair)

We did Daily 5. (Crimson)

We did math workstations. (Livi and Kate)

We did morning meeting and closing meeting. (Emily)

We had a 2 hour late start. We got to sleep in! (Adeline and Kate)

We read The 3 Snow Bears by Jan Brett. It was like Goldilocks and The 3 Bears. In some ways it was the same and in some ways it was different. (Zain and Brock)

We did math. We did sorting of lunch boxes. We sorted by polka dots and no polka dots. We also did characters and no characters. (Randy and Lexie T.)

We had Adeline’s birthday snack! It was donuts! They were delicious! It was Adeline’s half birthday. (Livi and Kate)

We had counselor. We got to make a picture with shapes stickers. We made it to show that some people are different than others. (Kamri)

We did writing. We wrote our first, next, and last. The story is about ourselves. (Zain)

We talked about same and different in math. We had a recording sheet to use with our partners. (Blair)

We read The Hat by Jan Brett. It was fun! (Aidin and Rilen)

For Fundations we did S and T. (Cordae)

Parent Teacher Conferences are February 26^th and 27^th this trimester. Typically, teachers keep the same day of the week and time from the fall during the last week of February for the winter conferences. I am thinking about making Monday night available as well. Please let me know if you see any problems with your day and time from the fall. Thank you!

Here is what we did today!

It’s the 100th day of school! (Anna)

Mrs. Hotchkiss and Miss Miller look like grandmas! They are dressed like they are 100 years old! They looked funny and talked funny too! (Livi, Rilen, and Kate)

We made 100 glasses. (Emily)

We had snack. We made a snack with 100 pieces. (Zain)

When we walked in we saw a poster that said, “Happy 100th day”. (Adeline)

Mrs. Hotchkiss showed us what we would look like if we were 100 years old. It was on Mrs. Hotchkiss’ iPad. (Brooke) This was a funny app called Aging Booth!

We read a book called Ms. Bindergarten Celebrates 100 days in Kindergarten. (Cordae)

We wrote about our favorite part of the first 100 days of school. (Randy)

We brought 100 items to count! We got to count to 100 on a special sorting mat. It was fun. (Blair)
