I am back! The kids were excited and had lots of things they wanted to tell me! Haha!

Here is what we did today!

We did library. We did tablets and watched a little video. We played guessing games. Me and Will M. got first. (Aster and Evalynn)

We did math. We played a game on the Smartboad. It had cars. We tapped on the dice. We moved the cars. (Caroline) We worked on decomposing numbers!

For read aloud we had a big book about pushing and pulling. (Abby)

We had Fundations. We did the vowel chart. (Parker)

We did math. We sorted jelly beans and recorded how many of each color. We did tally marks as well. After that we got to eat them! (Aster)

In Fundations we played game where you had to go behind where we keep the letters and pick an object. Then the person grabs one with their eyes close. They tap the word and the class guesses the object. (Rylan)

We tapped nonsense words in Fundations. They were not real words. (Caroline)

Here is some information about the field trip tomorrow. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time tomorrow. ALL students MUST be WEARING socks in order to participate at Tiger Bounce. We will be loading buses at 9:00 and plan to arrive to Tiger Bounce by 9:30. Parents can meet us at Tiger Bounce at 9:30 a little bit before. My class will be walking directly over to Hy-Vee as soon as we arrive. We will be taking a 45 min tour of the Hy-Vee facility. After our tour we will be walking  back to Tiger Bounce for some jumping fun. The Skating rink WILL NOT be open during this field trip. Please DO NOT purchase snacks at the concession stand for the children. We will be leaving Tiger Bounce at 12:00 and returning to school by 12:30. When we return we plan to have a picnic lunch

(hopefully outside).

Hy-Vee will be providing:

Slice of cheese for each child

Cookie for each child

Fruit for each child

Fortune cookie for each child

PTA is purchasing cheese pizzas for the kids.

We will also have capri suns.

If your child would prefer to bring their own picnic lunch, that is fine. Parents are welcome to join us at school for our picnic. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks so much!

We did math. We measured time by walking and tiptoeing and doing our own way. (Rylan)

We did the weather. It was 61 degrees in the morning. (Abby)

We did Fundations. We learned a rule to help us know when to use “c” and when to use “k”. If the vowel sound is a, o, or u then it has a “c”. K words have e and i. (Azayla and Caroline)

We watched a video at read aloud about living and non-living things. Living things eat, move, grow, need air and water, and make babies. (Parker, James, Hayden, Rose, Aster, Grayson, and Evalynn)

For parents attending the field trip on Friday…

The bus will arrive at Mill Creek at 9 am and we will load shortly after. The buses will take us to Tiger Bounce so please plan to meet us  there around 9:15-9:20 am. Our class will be one of the first to go to HyVee so we will walk there together from Tiger Bounce. After our HyVee tour, we will talk together back to Tiger Bounce. We will stay at Tiger Bounce until 12 pm. We will head back to school and have a picnic together outside. Parents are welcome! We will have pizza, fruit, etc. provided by HyVee! Since we will have lunch much later than usual, please encourage your kiddo to eat a big breakfast on Friday!

We did an experiment. We are testing out if the wind can blow things or cannot blow things. We are using a hair dryer. (Azayla)

There are only 31 days left in Kindergarten. (Evalynn)

We did writing. In writing we had to finish our book of what we are good at and our 4th grade buddy letter. And after that we got to write another note to whoever we wanted! (Aster) We wrote encouraging letters to our 4^th grade buddies as they prepare for their MAP tests!

Lots of stuff coming home today including behavior reports, reading bags, extra paper books to keep at home, important notes about upcoming events, etc. Please look these over! Have your student read the books in the reading bag to you over the weekend and return these books in the bag on Monday. If your child didn’t return their reading bag then they do not have one coming home today.

Due to MAP Testing, classes will not be coming to the library or checking out books beginning on Monday, April 15th and lasting through Friday, May 3rd.  If students need to renew books or return them to get new ones, they must come by during Open Check-out each morning, which is from 8:00-8:20. 

Due to the last day of school on Tuesday, May 28th, the last day a student will be able to check out a book will be Friday, May 10th.  After that time, they will only be able to return books as we will be working on getting all library materials returned by Friday, May 24th.  While we are MAP Testing the doors to the Media Center will be closed.  If you need to return books, just set them outside the doors and we will get them and check them in when we have time.  If a student would like to renew a book, please put a post-it on the book with their name and lunch number and we will take care of it as well.  Please let us know if you have questions.

We did math. We had a piece of paper and we drew a story problem. We wrote a number sentence. We put a sticky note over the answer. We put a question mark on the sticky note. Mrs. Hotchkiss turned it into a class book. (Caroline)

We did project. We pretended something blew away in the wind. It could be whatever you wanted. (Evalynn)

We did writing. In writing we wrote about what we are good at that we could teach someone about. We had to use words first, next, and last. We had to use the word “you” because you are teaching someone else. (Aster)

Lots of important information coming home in folders today!! Make sure you look at the field trip note, the save the date for our end of the year Kindergarten singing program (graduation), special events, book orders, etc.

April Scholastic book orders are due April 12th! I wanted to have these due early in the month just in case you need books for Easter baskets! Just let me know if you want me to “hide” books for you to pick up at a different time.

Reading bags are coming home today! Please have your child read these book to you over the weekend and return these books on Monday!

For project we talked about the 3 types of clouds. Cirrus clouds are like horse tails. Stratus clouds are down low. The big puffy ones are cumulus. (Abby, Caroline, and James)

We went to P.E. We played at stations. There were 8 stations. One of the stations was jump rope. One was hula hooping. We had to throw balls into a basket. You jumped to see how high you could go. It was fun. (Hayden, Rose, Caroline, Rylan, and James)

Message from Mr. Gwinner…

As you may have heard, we are planning a project that will involve every student at Mill Creek painting a rock.  The painted rocks will be gathered together in a location to be determined on the school grounds—to create a large display celebrating the power of teamwork.  We will paint these rocks during art class but we are asking students to bring rocks to school for the project.  Students should bring 2-5 rocks that would be good to paint on.  Ideally, these rocks should be smooth (but not polished), round, and lightly colored.  Rocks should be small enough to easily hold in the palm of one hand, but not so small as to be easily held between two fingers.

Rocks will get painted next week in art class!!

We went to Mrs. Flanagin’s room for a meteorologist! He showed us a special map! We predicted the weather for today and we were right! (Rylan, Evalynn, and Grayson)
