Here is what we did today!

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We made wind socks. You need a cylinder out of paper. You decorate it. It points which way the wind is blowing. If it blows low there is some wind and if there is a lot of wind it goes up and down a lot. (“Woody” Isaac and “Peter Pan” Dempsey)

We did music. We watched a part of Aladdin on stage. He was singing You’ll Never Have a Friend Like Me. (“Peter Pan” Dempsey and “Princess” Emma)

We did math. We did jelly bean math! We sorted the jelly beans by color. We did a graph and we saw how many we have in all! (“Princess” Maclyn)

We did Fundation. We did magnet boards. (“Lightning McQueen” Britt)

We did read aloud. We read two books about wind. (Princess Beauty Carmel Grace)

Here is what we did today!

We did P.E. In P.E. we played a game. You try and knock over other people’s pins. We went to our stretching spots. (Ismael and Dempsey)

We did counselor. We read a book about things we could be when we grow up. We played a game on the Smartboard. You had to pick a card and you guessed what the job was. (Isaac and Carmel Grace)

We did Daily 5. Mrs. Hotchkiss did reading groups. (Blake and Britt)

We did read aloud. We read a True of False book about storms. Mrs. Hotchkiss read it. (Joshua)

We did math. We played Roll and Color. We have a partner and 2 dice. Whatever number you get in all you color it. (Brooklynn)

We did Fundations. We wrote R and Q in our Fundations notebooks. We did the big cards, the vowel chart, and we played a game on the Smartboard. We tapped bossy R words. It was -ar, -ir, and -ur. (Maclyn)

Here is what we did today!

We had library. We checked new books. We played on the computers. (Blake)

We did math. We did a flower game. The teen number was in the flower. We put the addition number sentence to match. We put counters on the double tens frame. (Madelynn, Dempsey, and Isaac)

We made a project. We used cotton balls. We stretched them out to make something. It was a cloud. We thought it was something but it was just a cloud up in the sky. (Maclyn and Ismael)

We did read aloud. We read a book about clouds. (Emma)

We learned about clouds. Cumulus clouds are big puffy white clouds. Cumulonimbus clouds are big storm clouds. They can cause thunderstorms, tornados, and damage. Stratus clouds are low and flat like a pancake. Cirrus clouds are thin, high, and wispy like horse tails. (Brooklynn, Emma, Joshua, and Dempsey)

We did art. We painted a fish or a dragon. (Isaac)

We did Makerspace. We made a house out of newspaper. We had to all work together. We put big books on top to see if it would hold. No one could make it work. (Dempsey)

We did math. We had to pick a domino. We had a piece of paper. There was a box that the domino fit in. We wrote the addition number sentence. (Maclyn)

We did Daily 5. Mrs. Hotchkiss got some new word work games. Mrs. Hotchkiss did a reading group. (Blake, Emma, and Brooklynn)

We had 2 guest readers come. They read the book Splat The Cat. (Carmel Grace)

We did writing. We wrote about our favorite thing about Spring. Today is the first day of Spring. (Emma)

We had guest readers. Two read Night Noises. And two kids read Hot Rod Hamster. (Carmel Grace and Joshua)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. It was Blake’s birthday snack. (Ismael and Britt)

We did writing. We wrote about our Monday News. (Isaac)

We did math. We played a game called Hopping on the Number Line. It went from 0-20. We rolled dice. We hopped on the number cards. (Maclyn)

We went to the computer lab in the morning. We had Mrs. Biener tell us what to do. (Ismael)

We did morning meeting. We did the calendar. The calendar helper told us what yesterday was, what today is, and what tomorrow will be. (Dempsey)

 I told the kids that they are welcome to bring a small stuffed animal as well.

We did a project. We made a leprechaun hat with a 4-leaf clover. (Maclyn)

We celebrated Wilson’s birthday! (Isaac)

We did read aloud. Mrs. Hotchkiss read Looking for Leprechauns. (Brooklynn)

We did P.E. We played a game where you had a partner and you had to throw the ball into a basket. If you make it in the basket, you get the spot. If you don’t make it in, you don’t get the spot you were sitting on. (Britt and Dempsey)

We did writing. We wrote about how we would catch a leprechaun. We drew a picture. (Ismael)

We did our poem. We put it in our poetry folder. (Blake)

We watched a little video about leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day. Four leaf clovers give you good luck. St. Patrick was a real man. (Brooklynn, Ismael, and Dempsey)

We did math workstations. (Wilson)

Instead of reading bags, the kids are bringing home their poetry folders to read to you this weekend! They are very excited! PLEASE make sure these come back to school on Monday!! We add to these folders weekly!

I am sending home another Student Treasures order form if you have not sent yours back. Please make sure to fill out this form if you are buying or not so we can get a free class book! The kids are so excited to have a published book with their work!!

Information about the Color Run and our Kindergarten Graduation Program are coming home today!

We did art. We drew self-portraits. (Britt)

We did math. We went to computer lab and played ST Math. We also got to play Starfall. (Ismael)

We did writing. We drew the picture of when we grow up. We got to use marker! (Dempsey)

We did read aloud. We read a weather book. (Emma)

We took Spring pictures today. (Emma)

We did Fundations. We wrote Mm and Nn on our Fundations whiteboards. We tapped words on the chart and on the smartboard. Mrs. Hotchkiss showed us the Starfall about 2 vowels. When 2 vowels are in the middle of the word then the first one says its name (long vowel sound). The second one is silent. We did words like seal, team, and boat. (Maclyn, Carmel Grace, Dempsey, and Isaac)

We had a guest reader. It was called Can I Play? (Brooklynn)

I will be leaving early tomorrow (around 2). My son has an appointment. There will be a sub for the end of the day. Please call the office if there is a transportation change.

Movie and popcorn party is Friday! Also kids can wear green for St. Patrick’s Day! We have one great movie option but if your student wants to bring some other options they are welcome to! We will vote on Friday!

For math we played a game where you had to flip over 2 cards. You add the 2 numbers together. You have a partner. Whoever has the biggest number gets to take all the cards. (Emma)

We did writing. We wrote about what we are going to be when we grow up. Some of us practiced our pictures on the back if we had time. (Isaac and Joshua)

We did morning meeting and morning buzz. (Joshua and Brooklynn)

Here is what we did today!

We did P.E. We played a game called Keep the Ball Rolling. If you don’t keep it rolling you have to do 10 pushups. We played a game where if you knocked over your pin you earn a point. You pass the ball to your partner. If you knock over your neighbor’s pin then you have to pick it up and you don’t get a point. (Isaac and Ismael)

We did math. We combined Growing Trains and Disappearing Trains. We did taking away and adding. (Maclyn and Brooklynn)

We did math. We played Counters in a Cup. There are 10 cubes and your partner has to guess how many there are inside of the cup. They can see how many are outside the cup. (Russell)

We did read aloud. We read Tasting Things. We tasted different foods. Pretzels were salty. We also tried dark chocolate that was bitter. We tried jelly beans and lemon. The lemon was sour and jelly beans were sweet. (Brooklynn and Isaac)

We did Fundations. Erin brought some ABeeC card. We tapped out the words. We did capital J. (Emma)

We did writing. We wrote rough draft of what we want to be when we grow up. We are going to put it into a book! Our class earned 100 Cougar Compliments for good behavior!! To celebrate we will be having a popcorn and movie day next Friday! If you have a G rated movie you would like to let us borrow, please reply to this email!

We did math. We played Disappearing Trains. There is a line of cubes to 20. You roll the dice and you take away that many. (Russell)

Today a nurse came and talked about what thing keep us healthy. (Maclyn)

We did music. We played some games. We played Yum Yum. We had to guess the instruments. We got to play big drums. We sang a song about Johnny. (Carmel Grace)

We did writing. We are going to make a published book about when we grow up. We looked at the one from the kids last year and the year before. (Dempsey) More information is coming home on Friday but the students are submitting a piece of writing to a company called Student Treasures and they are going to publish a book for us! You can order this book if you would like!

I will be gone tomorrow with a sick kiddo! They will have a wonderful sub! Her name is Mrs. Littiken and she is a former Mill Creek teacher. I will be back on Friday!

Here is what we did today!

We had a bunch of guest readers today. Today is Dr. Seuss day and we got to wear our PJ’s and bring our stuffed animals. (Maclyn)

We did math. We measured us. We used strings. We used post-it notes. We looked to see how many post-it notes it took to be the same as our string. We wrote on the paper how many post-it notes tall we were. If you were under 12 post-it notes tall you couldn’t ride the (imaginary) ride but if you were 12 or taller you could. (Brooklynn, Ismael, and Dempsey)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. We had a guest reader at snack. It was Brooklynn’s mom. (Britt)

We did a Dr. Seuss paper. (Isaac)

My mommy read to us! She read A Great Day For Up and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. (Erin)

It’s Ben’s birthday and Dr. Seuss’ birthday! (Carmel Grace)

We practiced rhyming words and made up words. We had a great day. (Joshua)

Addison and Mr. Hotchkiss and Mr. Hotchkiss’ dad came to read to us! (Wilson)

I put lots of fun (optional) homework in the folder today! We ran out of time to pack up reading bags at the end of the day today. These will come home again next week!

We did music. We had a tornado drill. We played Doggie Doggie Where’s Your Bone with fake money. (Dempsey)

We did math. We played with a teen math spinner. We had a paperclip and pencil to make it spin. We had a double tens frame. Whichever number we landed on we put counters on the double tens frame. We had a whiteboard and we wrote the addition number sentence. So if we got 16 we would write 16=10+6 or 10+6=16. (Joshua)

We read a Dr. Seuss book called What Pet Should I Get? (Brooklynn)

We are doing closing meeting and snack. (Xander)

We flip flopped lunch and recess. I don’t want it to happen again. (Ismael)

Today at math workstations, the calendar helper, weather reporter, and days and school reporter had to do their jobs independently. Once morning meeting started they had to tell the class what they did. (Maclyn)

Tomorrow we are going to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday! To celebrate I told the kids they can wear their pajamas to school (tennis shoes please) and bring a small stuffed animal! We will have lots of guest readers and will enjoy many Dr. Seuss books!
