Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had math. We played Subtraction Bowling. (Elizabeth)

We did our picnic. After lunch when the first graders were done we played on the playground. (Yahna)

We had our last day of school. We wiped down the tables. It was a half day. (Nick)

We had writing. We wrote about our favorite memory. The paper was different because the picture was at the bottom. (Brendan)

We had read aloud. We read Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the Last Day of Kindergarten. (Sophia)

We cleaned up our classroom and we are taking home our supply boxes. We are taking home extra supplies like glue sticks. (Abigail)

At the end of us cleaning we got gummy bears and pictures. (Yahna) Thank you, Ann Griffin!!

Wow! What to say about this year! Thank you all SO much for being such awesome and supportive families! I feel so blessed to have had such wonderful kids in my class this year. I will miss you all! Have a wonderful summer!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did our Mercy Watson celebration. We wrote about our favorite book. We graphed which one was the class favorite. (Yahna)

We got to get our own Mercy Watson book to keep. (Elizabeth) My gift to the kiddos!

Today is Serenity’s birthday. She brought cookies. (Brendan)

Today during writing Mrs. Hotchkiss made toast. You could pick jelly or butter on your toast. We celebrated Mercy Watson. (Sophia)

Mrs. Hotchkiss dressed up like Mercy Watson the pig. She had a pig nose and a tiara. Mercy loves hot buttered toast. (Abigail)

Tomorrow is the last day of school. We packed up some things from our book box. (Mila) Lots of things!!

 We had math. We played Subtraction Bowling. There had to be 3 people. One person sits behind the 10 cups on the dice mat so the ball doesn’t roll away. One person rolls the ball into the cups. If you get 0 you roll again. You knock over the cups. Another person writes the subtraction number sentence of how many you knocked over. (Maggie) So much fun!

We did Daily 5. It was our last day of doing Daily 5. We tried to do our best and Mrs. Hotchkiss passed out the Mercy Watson books. (Abigail)

We had music. We played a game. You stand in a circle. You pass the frog around the circle. You sing a song. And if the frog lands on you on one part of the song you are out. (Yahna)

Grade cards are in the folders today! You will also find a paper with some suggestions for summer activities (ignore the part about Ann’s Teacher Store).

Have a great night!! Tomorrow we will be dismissed at 12:50 pm! Parent Pick up will be in the gym by 12:45 pm.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had P.E. In P.E. we did Rubik Bowling Bingo. (Bennett)

We had read aloud. We read Leo the Late Bloomer. He couldn’t do anything like write, draw, read, color, or say one word. At the end of the book he could read, write, and draw. We talked about how we bloomed. (Brendan)

We had Fundations. We voted if we wanted to do magnet boards or whiteboards. Our class decided to do magnet boards. We spelled some words. We tapped some words. We had a few minutes to build our own words. (Elizabeth)

We had our assembly. There were singers. Some had fancy clothes. (Abigail)

After the assembly we went into the hall and lined up against the wall. The 5th graders came through and we gave them high-fives because it is there last year at Mill Creek. They will become middle schoolers. (Yahna)

We got 100 Cougar Compliments. We voted to have a picnic on the last day of school. It will be our last celebration. (Mila) If you would like to join us for our lunch picnic we will be eating at 10 am on Thursday! Students buying lunch will go through the lunch line like they normally do and then meet us outside! We would love for you to join us if you can!

Tomorrow will be my birthday! (Serenity)

After read aloud we did a paper and drew a picture of how we bloomed. (Sophia)

We did 2 choices at Daily 5. (Yahna)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We are having my birthday snack. (Keirnan)

We had snack. They were chocolate donuts with rainbow sprinkles. We also had juice. (Maggie)

We had our field day activities outside on the blacktop. Some of the games we got wet. (Elizabeth)

Today we did board games instead of Fundations. Some of us brought board games from home. If we didn’t bring one Mrs. Hotchkiss had extras. When we were done with writing you could go play it. (Yahna)

We had read aloud. We finished the 6th book of Mercy Watson. We finished the whole book series. We got to look at Kate DiCamillo’s website. We played a matching game. We played 2 rounds. We watched a video of the illustrator drawing Mercy. (Sophia)

We had counselor. We read a book called “Oh No It’s Time to Go” It was about 2 kids who were friends and one was moving. After she moved a new family moved into that house and they became friends. He gave the new girl a flower. It was also about how we are saying goodbye. We made a Popsicle stick to say I am ready for 1st grade. (Brendan and Kiernan)

We did writing. Writing was after field day. For writing we wrote about our favorite thing we did for field day. We colored our picture. (Abigail)

We had morning meeting after lunch and recess. (Andy)

In your child’s folder you will find a stack of old assessments. You can keep them or recycle them!  

Tomorrow is the end of school assembly! This will be outside. Please have your child bring a towel to sit on. They are welcome to wear hats or sunglasses as well.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

Today was Fun Day. We got to watch a movie. (Mila)

One of the activities is we got to do was the parachute. (Yahna)

At the end of the day we get to have popsicles. We also get to have our own snack. (Abigail and Evie)

We did our stations outside. One of them was sidewalk chalk. (Sophia)

We did our rotation outside. One of the stations was bubbles. (Andy)

Hula hooping was our first station. We got to carry them to the blacktop. (Elizabeth)

We had read aloud. Today we read Mercy Watson Something Wonky This Way Comes. They went to a movie called When Pigs Fly. Baby Lincoln thought it was a romance movie. It was a drive in movie. It had a parking lot with a big screen. You can watch it while you are in your car eating popcorn. Mercy loves butter so she ate a little girl’s bucket of popcorn. (Brendan and Nick)

We had art. For art today we got to cut out our arabesques or our leaves. (Sophia)

We got to play on the playground when we were done with the hula hoops. (Serenity)

The new playground equipment is open! (Andy)

Field Day is Monday! Grade cards will come home on Wednesday! Have a good weekend!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had music. We did Carnival of the Animals. We are on the swan. She showed us the lion song. Next time we are going to play a game and sing. (Maggie)

We had read aloud. We finished Mercy Watson Thinks like a Pig. We met a new character. Her name is Francine Poulet. She is an animal control officer. She tried to catch Mercy. (Elizabeth)

We did writing. For writing we wrote why we wanted to swing or slide. (Kayleigh)

We had Daily 5. We did 2 choices. (Brendan)

We had math. We played a different version of Go Fish. You had to make 10. You have a deck of cards and what you do is when you find a combination of 10 you set the cards down. (Kiernan)

We had Fundations. For Fundations we did some more blends of st and sc. We got to guess what was in the tub. Also Mrs. Hotchkiss put those in our Word Work games. We also talked about bossy R. Bossy R takes over the vowel sound. They are ar, er, ir, or, and ur. It makes a different sound. (Sophia)

Important announcements

Tomorrow is our Summer Fun day! We will be spending most of the morning outside. Please make sure your student has athletic shoes on and ready to go! Sunscreen applied before school is highly encouraged. They may also wear hats or sunglasses!

Monday the 22nd: Field Day! Kindergarteners will have fun in the sun from 8:30 to 9:50 a.m.  Remind your child to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes for all of the fun activities.  Your child may bring a favorite hat or sunglasses to school. You might also put an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks just in case they get a little wet. No swimsuits please!! Please apply sunscreen to your child before school on this day! Students can also bring a favorite board game to play in the afternoon!!

Tuesday the 23rd: “Hats Off” to Summer Celebration and End of the Year Assembly! Students are welcome to wear their favorite hat or pair of sunglasses to school for the outside assembly. They are encouraged to wear MCE sprit wear (dark blue and silver)! Kids are also encouraged to bring a towel to sit on during the assembly!

Thursday the 25th: Last Day of School (early dismissal)! Students will be released at 12:50 p.m.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We visited with our 3rd grade buddies, had popsicles and played on the playground for an hour. (Elizabeth)

In PE class we learned some of the games we’ll be playing on Field Day.  One station was a bug game. (Yahna)

In writing, Mrs. Hotchkiss passed out cards that said “Would you rather…”  Students would them go around and ask other students the same question on the paper that said Would you Rather. (Sophia) The students also did a survey asking kids in the class if they would rather swing or slide. We will write about our opinions tomorrow.

In Daily 5, students chose 2 choices that they haven’t done.  They chose word work, read to self or someone else or writing. (Bennett)

We had lunch and recess.  We had a substitute teacher for Ms. Donna. (Brendan & Eshan)

In fundations we did the big cards and the vowel chart. We worked with blends. Like yesterday we had little tubs that we got to guess the things inside of them, br,cr,fl.  But yesterday we were supposed to do fl but Mrs. Hotchkiss couldn’t find it.  (Sophia)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had library. We went to the computer lab. We read a book called Dad and the Dinosaur. In the story it was silly because the main character’s name was Nicholas. We played STmath, ABCya, and then we could pick anything we wanted on Destiny. (Elizabeth and Nick)

We had Daily 5 and we got to pick 2 choices. (Brendan)

We had writing. We talked about facts and opinions. We did a sort. We put the words on the right side at the learning rug and we did one by ourselves. (Yahna)

We had morning meeting and we did math workstations. We did the Pledge of Allegiance, the calendar, and days left in school. There are 7 more days until Kindergarten is over. (Kiernan and Kayleigh)

We had math. For math today we played a game called 2 more, 2 less. It was similar to a math workstation game but it had higher numbers. You roll a 12 sided dice. You spin the spinner. You get 1 more or 1 less or 2 more or 2 less and you cover up the number. (Sophia)

We did read aloud. We started the 4th Mercy Watson book. The name of the book was Mercy Watson Princess in Disguise. We didn’t finish it today so we will tomorrow. (Maggie)

We had Fundations. We used these tubs with stuff in them. We had to guess what it was. The tub had words that started pl or gl. They are called blends. We had fun. (Abigail)

Here is what we did today!

We had our play called How Does Your Garden Grow? (Nick)

We had a fire drill. We went outside. Mrs. Hotchkiss would call our names and we would say “here”. (Elizabeth)

We had math. We played a game called Total of 10. How you play is you put out 20 cards facing up. You pick cards that add up to 10. We recorded it on our paper. (Yahna)

Today was a weird day because we did not have Fundations and closing meeting was before music. (Sophia)

We had Daily 5. (Yahna)

We had writing. We wrote about something. It is a surprise!! (Anders)

We had lunch and recess. (Brendan)

We read the Mercy Watson book. It was Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride. Mercy Watson went flying out of the car!! They didn’t get a speeding ticket. They all had hot buttered toast. (Abigail)

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We celebrated Nick’s birthday since his real birthday is during summer break. We ate glazed donuts. (Mila)

We had P.E. We played a game to practice soccer. You kicked the ball to your partner. If you knocked over your neighbors pin you had to do 5 push-ups. (Elizabeth)

We practiced our program with our costumes on. Scarecrows, groundhogs, and bunny didn’t practice with face paint. (Evie)

We did a Mother’s Day project but it’s a secret. (Maggie)

We read Mercy Watson. We met someone new in the book. His name is Officer Tomilello. Baby Lincoln snuck in the Watson’s convertible. Baby Lincoln’s sister, Eugenia, is mean. (Abigail)

We did Daily 5. We did 2 choices. (Sophia)

We had lunch and recess. (Brendan)

We had closing meeting and snack. We are going to do play time. (Kiernan)

We had morning meeting and we did whiteboards. (Yahna)

Dear Parents:
We are working hard this week to get ready for our kindergarten performance. Here is a little information so you know what to expect on Friday.

  1. The performance will be starting at 2:20. We will be performing in the cafeteria. Seating may be limited. The cafeteria will be open for seating at 2:10…. Please do not plan on coming earlier. The custodial staff will be working as quickly as possible  transitioning from lunch setup to performance seating. It is important that we give them the space to get that accomplished as quickly as possible.  
  2. Children’s performance shirts/ costumes will be worn over your child’s clothing.
  3. If you sent in money for a t-shirt, those HAVE BEEN purchased and you will be able to take those home after the performance.
  4. If your child owns a pair of sunglasses, please send those to school anytime between now and Friday. YOU DO NOT NEED to go out a buy a pair of sunglasses for your child.
  5. After the performance the children will be led back to their class. We ask that parents remain seated until all students have left the cafeteria. You may go to your child’s classroom to take pictures and retrieve your child.
  6. All additional costume items (beyond the t-shirt) need to be left at school with your child’s teacher. You are welcome to take your child’ t-shirt home with you. We will leave kids in costume until pictures are taken.
  7. After the performance you are welcome to take your child home since it will be close to dismissal. You will NOT need to sign your child out. For safety reasons PLEASE let your child’s teacher know that you are taking your child BEFORE you leave.

The performance is looking fabulous and we can’t wait to perform for you. Thanks so much!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had library. We finally got to go in the library room. We got to do computers. We played a game on the computers where you add shapes. You put the shapes in the right spot. It was on ABCya. (Kiernan and Kayleigh)

We practiced our program in the lunch room. We practiced on the stage. We practiced going up and down the steps. We sang our songs. (Yahna)

We did writing. We wrote a letter to Nurse Jackie or Nurse Shannon. (Brendan)

We had read aloud. We read another book in the Mercy Watson Series. It was called Mercy Watson Goes For a Ride. Every Saturday Mercy goes for a ride in Mr. Watson’s convertible. Someone special was behind the wheel. Some kids got to hold a Mercy Watson stuffed animal. (Elizabeth and Yahna)

Today was Walk to School Day. Some people got to walk to school. On the blacktop there was some snacks. After that you could play on the playground. (Sophia)

We had counselor and it was our last counselor. We got to fish for caterpillars. Each one had a number on the back. The number went with a question. (Evie)

We did Fundations. We learned about long I and short I. We played a Smartboard story and game. We read the words. (Bennett)

We had Daily 5. We had 2 choices. (Sophia)

Shameless plug! My best friend (who has 0 kids of her own) is getting a 3 month old girl and 4 year old boy tonight from the foster care system. They have nothing and these kids will be with her for a long time. If you have anything you would like to donate such as clothes, baby monitors, etc. then please respond to this email! Thank you!!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had art. We were architects. We could make houses, amusement parks, or playgrounds. He read us a book. It was about a type of bug called a termite. He was an architect.  (Elizabeth)

We had writing. We wrote letters to our principals. Today is Principal’s Day! (Nick)

We had math. For math today we played Race to 100. How you play it is you have 2 different color bears. Someone rolls the dice. Whoever gets to 100 on the 100’s chart first is the winner. (Sophia)

We had Daily 5. We got to do 2 choices. (Brendan)

We had morning meeting. We did the calendar. We did the pledge of allegiance. We did white boards. (Kayleigh)

We did Fundations. We did short vowels and long vowels. We did a short vowel and long vowel game. We did the vowel chart. We did long e. (Yahna)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp because it was the 160th day of school. There is 12 days left in school. (Andy)

We finished the 1st Mercy Watson book called Mercy Watson to the Rescue. Mr. and Mrs. Watson thought she was going to alert the fire department but she really just wanted hot buttered toast. It was a chapter book. It was silly. It was super funny because of the pig named Mercy. (Abigail)

Our class got 3 Cougar Compliments today. (Elizabeth and Addison)

Here is information from the K team about our program on Friday! Please read carefully!!

Dear Parents:

The International Walk to School Day is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, May 10th. Weather permitting, parents and students should arrive by 7:25 a.m. at Central Bank of Boone County (across the street from Walgreens). The walk/bike ride will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The PTA will provide a small snack on the blacktop following the walk.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

In writing we had Monday news and it was almost the last Monday News writing we have this year. (Nick)

We practiced our program in Music and we learned a Spanish song, then played a song with our rhythm sticks. (Elizabeth)

We had math and played our memory game.  It was numbers in the 20’s all the way up to 30.  We had partners to do it. (Sophia)

In Fundations we worked on Star Fall on long and short vowels. We used big cards and little cards.(Yahna)

In Daily 5 we got to do two choices. (Brendan)

In read aloud we read a chapter book called Mercy Watson to the Rescue. (Sophia)

Our music program is this Friday at 2:20 pm in the cafeteria! We hope you can make it!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had math. For math we played Roll and Build. We had a long orange piece with 10 cubes. We had some little orange squares. We had a white board, rag, and marker. We had a 10 sided dice. Whatever number you got you added that number to 10. It could 11 or 12 or a number in the teens. Then you write it on the board. (Sophia)

We had library. We were creative. We got to make our own stuff out of felt pieces, paper, or straws. We used crayons and glue. We watched a video with Kid President. He has a disease where he breaks lots of bones. (Elizabeth and Abigail)

We did writing. We wrote in our weather books. The weather is super windy and sunny. No precipitation. (Mila)
We had lunch and recess and for recess we went on the blacktop. (Evie)

We had Daily 5. We got to do 2 choices. (Brendan)

We did Fundations. We did our family words. The family word we did today was –ay. The picture gave us a clue because it was hay. We did whiteboards. We did big cards and little cards and the vowel chart. (Yahna)

We did 2 books for read aloud. One was a true or false book about storms. You had to guess. One was about severe weather. There are 4 different types of lightning. One was called Blue Jet. One was Forked lightning. The others were Heat lightning and Sheet lightning. (Bennett)

Color run is tomorrow after school!
•Participants must wear the Mill Creek Color Run 2017 t-shirt.
•Parents meet your child on the blacktop at 3:30.  Students will be dismissed to the blacktop and sit by grade level.
•We will line-up on the blacktop in grade levels with 5th grade starting the run first.   We will begin with a staggered start to the run!
•At 4:05 a horn will sound to indicate runners need to finish lap and go to the blacktop for the color blast.
•Participants must be picked up by 4:15.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had art. We learned about Leonardo Da Vinci. We could make inventions or free draw. We had Mrs. Cockrell as our substitute. (Elizabeth)

We did a cloud project. We used a blue piece of paper. We used 3 cotton balls to make it look like shapes in the clouds. (Yahna)

We did Daily 5 and we got to do 2 choices. (Brendan)

We did math. We did a memory game. (Brynn)

We had writing. For writing we did the 3rd page of our weather book. It was mostly cloudy with some wind and rain. (Sophia)

For read aloud we read It Looked Like Spilt Milk. It was about clouds. It was funny. (Abigail)

We talked about clouds on the Smartboard and looked at pictures. We had to guess what type of cloud it was. We learned about Cirrus clouds, Cumulus clouds, Stratus clouds, and Cumulonimbus clouds. (Sophia, Addison, Anders, and Elizabeth)

Cumulonimbus ones are storm clouds. Some do tornados and thunderstorms. (Landon)

The Cirrus cloud is very thin and up high. (Yahna)

We did Fundations. We did our word family. We did words that end in –ap. The picture was of a map. There were a lot of words that we said! (Maggie)

They will be available to download there as well.

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We practiced our Kindergarten program in Music class and got a new book all about a Coo-Coo bird. Some got to use the long book, some used to touch book, and some worked on the poster. (Sophia)

Ms. Cathy came to our room. (Mila)

In fundations we had a new family word with the ending op. (Elizabeth)

In math we worked on addition and subtraction. We also played a math game called five in a row subtraction. (Yahna)

In Daily 5 and we had 2 choices. (Brendan)

We worked on our weather book in writing. Before that we made our Dailey 5 choices. (Sophia)

We learned about thermometers and Mrs. Hotchkiss had 2 cups that she filled up with hot water and one was cold water.  The hot one 100 degrees and the cold was 30 degrees. (Yahna)

In read aloud we read a book on weather and learned about clouds and thunder. (Maggie)

In morning meeting we did the rules and morning chart. (Abigail)

Student Treasures books are coming home today!! It is not too late to order one if you would like! New order forms are coming home today!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We had Fundations. We did our family words. We did big cards and little cards and we did the vowel chart. We got our boards to write our family words. They ended with –in. The picture gave you an idea because it was a pin. (Yahna)

We had P.E. We did our soccer stations. One of our stations you had to juggle without your hands. Another station was balls on a rope that you could kick. We also had a blue mat on the wall and a goalie. You tried to kick it on the blue mat. (Elizabeth and Sophia)

Today was Teacher Appreciation Day! We gave our teachers presents. (Evie) Thank you so much!!
