Here is what we did today!

At math we did calculators. (Rylan)

We had our toy party. (Azayla and Aiden)

For writing, Grayson got to make the cover of our book. We wrote about memories. (Abby)

We are going to have project. We get a book. We get to trace the words and color what’s inside and outside of our bodies. (Aster)

At music today we played Doggie Doggie Where’s Your Bone. We had to sit in a chair and Mr. Walker had a picture on the Smartboard and we had to look at it and not around the room. (Caroline)

We did word games. (James)

At lunch we got all of our bows on our kite so we got to listen to music. (Rylan)

HyVee and Tiger Bounce field trip is April 19^th! A note will come home after Spring Break.

5th Annual Mill Creek Color Run/Walk will be May 3rd- 3:45-4:15. (Rain Date May 10th) 

Cost-$10 per participant (includes T-shirt). Must register by April 19th. No late registrations accepted.   

Students 2nd grade and younger must have a parent present for the Run/Walk.

Forms will be sent home on April 5th and can found on the school website.

Community Service for April- Emergency Bags for Those in Need- (Collection items)

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, Shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, body wash or soap, wet wipes, tissues, mouthwash, sunscreen (all items should be travel size). More info to come!

Here is what we did today!

We did read aloud. The book was about our insides. It was called Your Insides. It was a non-fiction book. (Rylan and Aster)

We had writing. For writing we did the picture for our book! (Abby)

We went to computer lab. We went to Jiji and Starfall. (Caroline) We did ST Math from the CPS Portal!

We had P.E. and we played soccer. (Azayla)

Mrs. Baker came. She talked about good people. There are a lot of good people all around the world. (Aster)

We did Fundations. We learned “wh”. (Caroline)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp and the calendar. (Evalynn)

Bring a Toy to School Celebration is tomorrow!

Our class earned another set of 100 Cougar Tickets! To celebrate, the class voted to have a “Bring Your Favorite Toy to School” party! We will be doing this tomorrow! Each student can bring one small toy to school. This could be a small bag of legos or blocks, an action figure, a doll, stuffed animal, toy car, etc. No toy weapons please! Students can bring an electronic toy (such as a DS or small tablet) if the sound can be turned off or headphones can be plugged in. Please make sure it is fully charged or has new batteries. Please do not send valuable electronic toys because these toys will be unsupervised at times (recess, specials, etc.) Students will have the opportunity to play with these items at specific points in the school day. They will only be allowed to play with the toy in the classroom setting (not bus line, etc.) Please let me know if you have any questions! Thank you!

We did math. We had numbers on the floor. Mrs. Hotchkiss pulled name sticks. We got to roll the dice and if we got a minus sign we would jump back. If you got a plus sign you would jump forward. (Adalynn) Fun way to practice addition and subtraction while moving our bodies!

Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We are going to vote on how to celebrate 100 Cougar Tickets. (Abby) The kids picked another “bring a toy to school” party! We will celebrate this next Friday the 22^nd! More details to come.

The leprechaun came! He wrecked all our traps! (Rylan)

At math today we did a game with a cup. We had to put counters in the cup and leave some out. The other person had to guess what number is in the cup. They had to close their eyes and count to 10. (Caroline)

Today the leprechaun made messes! He wrote on the tables. He was in some paint and made footprints. He even made the toilet water green! (James)

Today was Will McCurry’s birthday. We had his birthday snack. We also did a taste test. (Evalynn)

We did whiteboards. We did a sentence. Mrs. Hotchkiss made mistakes and we had to write it the right way. (Maya)

We had P.E. We played a game where we had to dribble a basketball. We had to try and shoot it into the goal. (Aster)

We watched a little video about St. Patrick’s Day! (Azayla)

We had Fundations. We made words on our magnet boards. We pointed to each one and tapped it. It was so much fun! Mrs. Hotchkiss told a story about Baby Echo and big Echo. (Kent and Adalynn)

In the folder, please find the Student Treasures order form and fill it out! We are turning our “What do I want to be when I grow up” stories into a published class book! I have some examples in the classroom if you would like to see one. Every kid will write a story and draw a picture for the book. I would love to have all of these back (ordering or not) by March 22^nd! If you choose not to order, fill out your name and check the “not ordering” box at the bottom. If everyone returns a form, we get a free class book!

There is some fun optional homework in the folder today. We didn’t finish our five senses book so that is coming home. Encourage your student to finish it at home this weekend!

Our Tiger Bounce/HyVee Field Trip will be on Friday, April 19^th from 9:30-12 pm. Parents are invited and can attend free of charge. No siblings please. A note will come home next week! We went to art. We got to color a face. We used colored pencils and water. It turned into paint. (Maya and Caroline)

We did Fundations. For Fundations we did big cards and little cards. We did the vowel chart. We did white boards. We wrote words. (Hayden)

We did math. We did a new game called Teens Match It. Some cards had numbers on it and the others had ten frames. We got to flip it over and try and find a match. Whoever had the most matches at the end of the game wins. (Aster)

We did Makerspace. We got to make whatever we wanted with paper. We could use special tape that we had to glue. (Caroline)

We did project. We did some writing. We wrote what we could hear. After that we made bunny ears! We got to glue it and make it headband. (Aster)

We had Fundations. We made a word with a vowel in the middle. We added an e to the end and it made the vowel say it’s name! (Abby) We worked on the difference between long vowel and short vowel sounds. There are some fun games on Starfall to practice this!

Please make sure you send back your child’s reading bag so they have their books for Daily 5! They will not get new books sent home on Friday unless their bags have been returned.

Please make sure your student has a snack in their backpack every day! I typically keep extra snacks on hand but we are running low. If anyone would like to send in extra snacks for the class we would greatly appreciate it! Things like granola bars, cracker packs, etc. work well. Thank you so much!!

Here what we did today!

We made some fake teeth! We used marshmallows. We get to floss them! (Maya)

We read a mini book called Take Care of Your Teeth. On the inside we got to write some words. It was fun! (Aster)

We read a book called Nice Try, Tooth Fairy! In the book we saw that she lost a tooth. The tooth fairy put the teeth in a safe spot. (Caroline)

We did Fundations. We learned the letters Y and Z. (Parker)

We talked about how to keep our teeth clean. (Abby)

We did math. We talked about how we measured our partners yesterday. (Adalynn) We reflected on good measuring strategies and talking about how to accurately record our height!

We did the weather. (Parker)

We had inside and outside recess. (Evalynn)

Spring pictures are this coming Wednesday!

In the folder today you will find a March book order! This will be due March 29^th! https://orders.scholastic.com/H2MBR

In the backpack you will find a plastic bag that says “reading bag”. These are paper books that we keep in our book boxes at school. Please have your student read these 2 books to you over the weekend and then return the books in the bag back to school on Monday. They will be put back into the book boxes and read at Daily 5 time. The kids are very excited to get to read their books to you! These are books we have practiced in class.

Our prize box is getting low! If you have any small toys or items (like Happy Meal size toys) you would like to get rid of please send them in!

In the fall, our class was recorded saying the Pledge of Allegiance for the KOMU daily pledge! This will air this Sunday between 6:50 – 7 am. It will also appear on the website https://www.komu.com/daily-pledge I will send the link out again once it in on the website!

On March 15th, we are going to do a fun green foods taste test to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! If you would like to donate an item please sign up here!

We had art. We made a portrait of us. (Evalynn)

We did math. Mrs. Hotchkiss told a story about being tall enough to ride a ride. We used our body strings and post it notes. We had to be 12 post it notes to ride the ride and we had to figure out if we would be tall enough. (Aster)

For project we sorted foods that are good and bad for our teeth. We learned about healthy teeth. (Caroline)

We had counselor. She talked about the touching rule. No one can touch your private parts unless they are keeping you healthy. (James and Caroline) A note from the counselors is coming home today! Please look over this and continue this conversation at home!

Today we were learning about how to keep your body healthy. (Abby)

We read a book about being healthy. It was a Dr. Seuss book! (Azayla and Aster)

We did a little paper book. It was called I Can Move. (Evalynn)

Just a reminder that the plastic bag that says “Reading Bag” that came home on Friday needs to be returned with the 2 little paper books inside. I will need these back in order to send home 2 new books this coming Friday. This books can be read over the weekend and then returned back to school to be put back into the book boxes! Thanks!
