We did math. We did a trick or treating thing with paper candy and paper bag. We put the candies on top of it. Mrs. Hotchkiss told us a story and we had to use the candies. Field Trip!

This Friday, October 20th, Kindergarten will be going on a field trip to Peach Tree Farms. We will be leaving the school at 9:30 a.m. and returning to school by 1:00p.m. We will be eating lunch there so your child will need to bring a lunch from home in a throw away sack or order a sack lunch from school. Please do not send your child’s lunch box. Paper/plastic sacks work best as they can be thrown away. Students must wear closed toe shoes. Tennis shoes are recommended!

I have 12 parents who have signed up to come! Parents will need to provide their own transportation to the pumpkin patch. If you can, please bring a blanket to sit on for our picnic lunch!

Fall Celebration With Books

Tuesday October 31st

Your child may wear a costume to school (book characters encouraged)

No masks, scary make-up, wigs, weapons or props--anything that could be a distraction.

The costume must be something that can be worn all day.  Tennis shoes are encouraged.

Since the focus is on reading your child can bring a favorite book or two from home as well as a small stuffed animal (it needs to be able to fit in the backpack).

I am looking for 3-5 parent volunteers to come read to small groups of kids on October 31^st! This will be from 1 to 1:30 pm. After about 10 minutes the kids will rotate to a new parent reader. You can bring a favorite book from home or I will have lots of Halloween books in my classroom library to choose from. You are welcome to dress up and join in on the fun! Fun Fest is Friday!

Here is additional information (from K teacher Beth Dixon) if you have questions about the event!

Our Cougar Fun Fest is October 13th from 5:00-8:00pm. This is a family fun night as well as a fundraising opportunity for our PTA. PTA very generously supports our classrooms in a variety of ways including field trips, classroom materials, technology, assemblies, playground equipment, and much more. In order to meet the school’s needs, the PTA works very hard to raise funds that go directly back into your child’s classroom. We hope that the information below answers all your questions so you know what to expect!

Classroom Raffle Baskets:

Each classroom is responsible for creating a basket of themed items. These baskets will be displayed in the Commons during Fun Fest. You may purchase raffle tickets prior to Fun Fest or the day of the Fun Fest. Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. Once you have your tickets, you will place your name and phone number on the back of each ticket. Then you may choose which raffle basket you would like to win. You will place your raffle tickets in a bucket next to the basket you hope to win. If your ticket is pulled out you win the basket. These drawings are done at the end of Fun Fest. If you need to leave the Fun Fest early and your ticket gets pulled, your basket will be available in the office for pickup.

Pumpkin Drop:

Pumpkin drop is a very popular part of our Fun Fest. The Fun Fest committee will be selling pumpkin numbers in the Commons the week of Fun Fest. Each number purchased corresponds to a small foam pumpkin. You are purchasing pumpkin numbers for a chance to win a wide range of prizes. On the soccer field a target will be marked with numbered flags. Each flag will represent a prize. A hot air balloon (weather permitting) will be raised above the target and the numbered pumpkins will be dropped to the target. The pumpkin that lands closest to each numbered flag will win the prize that correlates with that flag. Watching the pumpkins drop is always exciting and the winners will be posted in the Commons during the Fun Fest. Prizes will be available to be picked up in Mrs. Flanagin’s room during the Fun Fest. Pumpkin drop tickets sell out quickly. There are a limited number of pumpkins that can be purchased. Please make sure to purchase your pumpkins early so that you can be part of this fun event!

Games:

On the black top, there will be a large variety of fun carnival games for kids to play as well as a bounce house. You will have the opportunity to purchase game bands prior to the Fun Fest and also at the Fun Fest. The bands will permit your child to participate in all games. These are super fun and lots of prizes can be won. Bands cost $10 each. Each child playing must have their own game band.

Silent Auction:

The Silent Auction will be located in the Gymnasium. There are a wide variety of items at all price points. Please make sure to stop by and check out many of the fabulous items donated to our auction. We are always looking for great donations for our auction, so if you have an item or idea for the silent auction, please let your child’s teacher know.

Food Trucks:

Food Trucks will be at the Fun Fest for food purchase. A portion of all food sales will be donated back to Mill Creek.

Here is what we did today!

We did math. We went to the computer lab. We played ST Math. (Russell and Maclyn)

We did library. (AJ)

We did Daily 5. Some kids did Read to Someone, some kids did Read to Self, and some kids did Work on Writing. (Ismael)

We did morning buzz. We talked about what we did over the weekend. (Isaac)

We went to Starfall.com. We did the letter b today. (Carmel Grace)

We did our poem. It was about community helpers. (Madelynn)

We did our video. It was about community helpers like police officers and firefighters and also teachers. (Brooklynn and Dempsey)

Brooklynn is the Cougar of the Week! She got a pencil. (Audylynn)

We wrote what we did over the weekend. It is called Weekend News. (Maclyn)

Tomorrow is the last day to donate Lego items for our Fun Fest raffle basket. Thank you to those who have donated!

Please make sure your child has a snack in their backpack every day if you can! Thank you!

I wanted to send a separate email today to let you know about some great online resources that your student can utilize at home!

If you visit the cps website www.cpsk12.org and go to the bottom right hand side of the page you will see the CPS Portal Login. Your student will log in using their user name and password (I can send you this if needed) and it will take you to some great resources purchased for CPS students!

We did ST Math today in the computer lab! This has GREAT math games! When the students log in through the portal, they do not have to use their password.

Capstone is a resource for online books!

If you click on Schoology and then click on the McGraw Hill Education App on the left hand side of the screen and launch the app, this will take you to the Everyday Math website! Click on the book and it will take you to the lesson we are doing on that day! There are great math games and activities on the website!

I highly recommend you try these things at home! Let me know if you need their log in information!
