Hi Parents!

Here is what we did today!

We did art. We went outside to draw a picture of Mill Creek. We used the crayons, pencils, and markers to make it a private building. (Madelynn and Maclyn)

We did morning meeting. I did days in school. (Xander)

We did writing. We wrote about Monday News. (Isaac)

We did math. We learned about time. We walked across the learning rug and across the room and saw how much time it was by counting. (Russell)

We did Daily 5 but it was short. (Blake)

We did Fundations. We tried to think of words that ended with -ot. (Brooklynn)

We did read aloud. We watched a video about living and nonliving things. Living things eat food, make babies, need air, drink water, grow, change, and move by themselves. (Ismael)

We did poetry. The poem was from Friday it was I’m a Little Chicken. We highlighted “up” and digraphs in the poem. (Carmel Grace)

I am attaching the May calendar! I will send this home tomorrow!

Closing meeting notes from last Thursday and Friday with Mrs. Vizcarra! They did great for the sub!

Closing Meeting – 4/26/18

We did our math work stations. We all had different stations than yesterday with partners. (Maclyn)

We had a volunteer today to help us. (Carmel)

We made a book about bugs…and practiced words like: over, under, between, behind and in front of. (Emma)

We did Read Aloud and learned about chickens on the farm. (Dempsey)

The counselor read us a book called “What Can Danny do?” – it was about how to solve problems in a good way. (Ismael)

We wrote in our Chick Hatching Journals. (Britt)

Our third grade buddies came and helped us make a chick hatching craft. (Isaac)

We had PE and ran the mile run. Those who did their best got a “toe token” (Brooklynn/Ismael)

We are going outside to have playtime. (Maclyn)

Closing Meeting – 4/27/18

•           We made structures with marshmallows and toothpicks. (Wilson)

•           We went to music for our Special today. (Madelynn)

•           We had Joshua’s mom and Russell’s mom help us with our surprise projects for Mrs. Hotchkiss. (Audy)

•           We wrote about our favorite thing with the chicks in our classroom. (AJ)

•           Mrs. Rodriquez said we earned a “Free” day at music next time. (Erin)

•           We had a read aloud about what is inside of an egg. (Sky/Emma)

Here is what we did today!

A chick expert came! He taught us about chicks! He taught us how to hold chicks. (Isaac) I have lots of pictures! I will put them on Class Dojo later tonight!

We did math. We played Mystery Block. What you had to do is find a partner and you would grab a shape and they would have to ask questions to guess what shape it was. They had to ask about color, if it was skinny or fat, if it was big or small, and what shape it was. (Brooklynn) We were working on attributes (size, shape, color, shape).

We did read aloud. We watched a Magic School Bus about chicks. (Britt)

We did the poem called I’m a Little Chicken. (Emma)

We did morning meeting. We did the calendar. (Xander)

Three of our baby chicks did not hatch. Another teacher only had only one egg hatch so we gave her 4 of ours so they could have 5 and we could have 5. Her class was disappointed. They are probably happy and excited now. (Dempsey and Maclyn)

It was Secretaries Day and we delivered our flowers to the office. (Blake)

We did writing. We wrote in our chick journals that a chick expert came. We also wrote about how we got to hold a chick. (Ismael)

We did library. We did snap circuits. We watched experiments. There was one where the cup was floating. We watched an egg experiment. He wrapped eggs up in stuff and dropped it to see if it would break or not. (Russell)

Tomorrow the kids will be running the mile in P.E. Please make sure they are in comfortable clothes and tennis shoes! They can bring a water bottle as well!

Friday we have an all school spirit day! Each grade will wear a different color of the rainbow. Kindergarten students are wearing red!

No closing meeting notes tomorrow or Friday since I will be gone. I left some fun things for the sub!! Have a great weekend!

This is what we did today!

We did art. We drew pictures of vases. It could be any kind of vase from all over the world. (Russell)

We did writing. We wrote in our chick journals. We wrote about what happened today. Some of them hatched today! One hatched yesterday. We have 9 that have hatched so far! There are 3 more that need to hatch. Five hatched last night. Three hatched this morning. (Maclyn and Ismael)

We made a little chick book that has how a chick starts and then it has how it ends. It starts as a little embryo and it becomes a chicken. It was a life cycle. (Isaac)

Mrs. Donna read a book about chicks to us. (Britt)

We did math. We played a game called Dice Addition. You roll 2 dice. One has numbers and one had dots. You put the numbers into an addition number sentence. Your partner would go. If you had the biggest total you put an X on your board. If you get 10 X’s you would win. (Emma and Brooklynn)

We got to watch the chicks hatch! We also did morning buzz. (Dempsey)

We did our poem. It is called I’m a Little Chicken. We talked about looking at word parts to help us solve a word. We found the little word “rat” inside of “scratch”. We found digraphs too! (Blake and Maclyn)

We did lunch and recess. It was super nice outside. We got to decide if we wanted to wear a jacket or not. (Russell)

Such an exciting day! You are welcome to stop by in the morning or after school to come look at the chicks! They will be leaving us Friday morning!

Just a reminder I will not be at school on Thursday or Friday. If your student has a change in transportation please let me know ASAP so I can put it in my sub notes or call the office!

Tomorrow is Secretaries Day! Make sure your student brings in one flower for our bouquet! It can be real or fake! Thanks!

Here is what we did today!

One of our chicks hatched! It started as a little pip hole to cracking the whole shell! It hatched while we were in music. (Brooklynn)

We did a project. We made an earth and wrote what we could do to help the earth. (Isaac)

We opened our last egg in the life cycle. Inside was a fake chick! (Blake)

We did music. We played a game. We listened to songs. (Dempsey)

We did math. We did a recycling sort. All the kids brought a piece of recycling. We graphed it. The most was plastic. There were 15. The paper only had 10 spots so we had to add 5 more. We put x’s on the boxes. (Maclyn)

We had a substitute until lunch and recess was over. She didn’t get to see the chick hatch! (Ismael)

We read a book about our earth. It was about taking care of the earth. We read one with Mrs. Vizcarra and one with Mrs. Hotchkiss. (AJ)

Here is what we did today!

We did Fundations. We did word families. We did the word family -at. We did the big cards and the vowel chart. (Britt and Wilson)

We did library. We went into the Makerspace room. We made lines on a piece of paper to control autobots. Mrs. Imhoff read us a book. It was called Robot Zot. (Isaac and Dempsey)

We had an assembly. They did songs from Walt Disney. It was the Mother Singers. They were all old grandmas! They sang Disney songs. (Emma, Brooklynn, and Erin)

We did read aloud. Mrs. Hotchkiss read a book called Where Do Chicks Come From? We opened the day 17 egg. (Maclyn)

We did writing. We wrote in our chick journals. We got a picture of the egg with the embryo inside. We glued it in our chick journal. (Ismael)

We did lunch and recess and then the poem. We clapped out syllables. We counted the words. (Russell)

Here is what we did today!

We did writing. We did chick hatching journals. We wrote about the chickens and the incubator. (Landon)

We did art. We painted some pictures that have curvy lines. We drew dots and painted with another color over the dots. (Madelynn)

We had a field trip. We went to the planetarium. It was like a big dome that taught us all about space. It was really fun. We acted like we had magic paint brushes and we painted the night sky. We saw the moon, constellations, and planets. We had a fake rocket ship that we blasted off into space! It felt like we were going up and down! At night we can ask mom and dad to look up at the night sky at 8:45 pm. (Dempsey)

We did read aloud. It was called From Egg to Chicken. It talked about the life cycle of a baby chick. It said how it gets out. How it cracks the egg is it has an egg tooth on its beak. They are so fluffy and adorable! On Wednesday the 25th a chick expert is going to come to our classroom. (Joshua)

We did the poem. We read The Chick. For the poem we talked about when there is a question mark our voices have to go up. (Maclyn)

Here is what we did today!

We did writing. Some of us finished our last step in our how to book. We wrote letters to our 3rd grade buddies. They are doing a big MAP test. (Isaac)

We did Daily 5. (Wilson)

We did Fundations. We did word families. We did words that end with -ug. (Britt)

We did math. We had partners and we got a paper that said yes or no. Mrs. Hotchkiss wrote our survey question at the top. We went around with a clipboard and you and your partner would ask the person a question like “Do you have a dog?” (Brooklynn)

Mrs. Hotchkiss showed us what the baby chicks look like on the chick life cycle. She opened the fake eggs. They will be in the eggs for 21 days. We will open one a day. So far they have been in the eggs for 15 days. (Maclyn and Ismael)

We made a chick journal. Mrs. Hotchkiss had a paper that had a blank spot to put our name on. Whenever we were done gluing on the paper we could draw on the back. We could draw eggs or chicks. (Brooklynn)

We had recess first and then lunch. (Russell)

We did music. We read a book about Peter Rabbit. It was on Storyline Online. (Emma)

We did the weather. (Blake)

Earth Day Homework! Please have your child bring in ONE CLEAN item that can be recycled (Examples: detergent bottle, soda bottle/can, aluminum can, glass jar, magazine, newspaper, paper, plastic water bottle, small cardboard box, cereal boxes, pasta box, etc.). Please make sure the plastic items are labeled 1-7! We will be using these to learn about Earth Day on Monday, April 23^rd!

Wednesday, April 25^th is Secretaries Day! We are asking each Kindergarten student to bring in one flower on this day so we can give our wonderful secretaries a beautiful bouquet! It can be real or fake!
