Here is what we did today!

We went to art. We made a picture. (Abby)

We got all 4 points in art today. (Caroline)

We are having snack. (James)

We did 2 projects. We made helper puppets and a hat. (Stella and Parker)

We played outside. (Aster)

We went to our 4th grade buddies room. (Grayson)

We went to lunch. (Azayla)

We did our poem. We put it in our poetry folders. (Maya)

Aster led the class in the rules. (Rylan)

We did the calendar. (Will M.)

We had 3 recesses. (Kent)

We did the Zero the Hero Stomp because it was the 30th day. (Kennedy)

We did the assembly. (Adalynn)

We did math. We played Pocket Problems. We had an envelope and counters. We put some in and then took some out. (Hayden) I picked a number of counters and put those in an envelope. I would then add one more or take one away. We talked about what is one more or one less than a number. We used what we knew about counting to figure it out!

We read a community helpers book. (Will C.)

In the folder today you will find information about the Social Growth and Work Habits behavior updates that I will send home starting next week. These align with the grade card and will determine how they score each trimester. I will rate your student using a 1 or a 2 in each area. I have attached the document to this email as well. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Also in the folder you will find some extra paper books and a writing activity if you would like to continue talking about safety and community helpers at home!

Here is what we did today!

We went to music. We played games. (James)

We had Fundations time. We got to use new whiteboards. (Parker)

We watched a police video. It was called Police at Work. (Henry)

Mrs. Baker came and made craft with us. We taught us about feelings. (Aster)

We ate lunch. (Maya)

We did snack. (Rylan)

We punched the sky to the letter sounds. (Caroline) We are working on building our phonemic awareness! Each day we will do activities like isolating beginning and ending sounds in words! We are so working on rhyming words and building and taking apart compound words. We add some hand motions to make it more fun!

We had playtime. (Kennedy)

At math we did quick eyes! (Evalynn)

We put numbers in the number grid. It looked like stairs. (Caroline)

On Friday, October 5th, we will be having an apple tasting day to celebrate all we have learned about apples! We will be trying all things apple and graphing our favorite type of apple.  If you are able to, please sign up for an item and send it in by Thursday, October 4th. We had to look at shapes on a screen in the nurse’s office. (Caroline) The kids had their vision and hearing screenings today!

We played Top It for math. (Rylan) With this game the students flipped over dot cards and compared amounts. Whoever had the larger number took both cards.

Tomorrow is pajama day! (Stella)

Our “Get the Scoop” Curriculum Night is this Thursday from 4:30-6 pm! This is an open house type event where your student can show you around the room and you get more information on what they will be learning this year! It is a “drop in” event so can come in anytime between 4:30-6 pm and you don’t have to stay the whole time. Hope you can make it!

We hit our goal of 100 behavior tickets!! To celebrate, we will be having a special Pajama Day on Friday, September 21st. Your child may wear his/her pajamas all day!  Please make sure that your child is wearing school-appropriate pajamas and tennis shoes, since we will have recess outside. Please do not send house slippers with your child to school, as they are not safe for playing on the playground.

Your child is welcome to bring a small stuffed animal as well (the toy must fit inside his or her backpack and have the ability to turn any noisemakers off).

Thursday, September 20 is 'Get the Scoop' Curriculum Night from 4:30-6 pm. This is a “pop in” event. You do not have to stay the whole time. There will be cups of ice cream available and each grade level will have information about this year's curriculum. We will be doing a scavenger hunt in our classroom!

We did math. We played Quick Eyes. It is a game where Mrs. Hotchkiss shows up a picture of dots and then she hides it really fast! (Hayden) We are working on mental math strategies! Quick images are a fun, engaging way for students to compose and decompose visual numbers. Students apply their understanding of subitizing—the ability to recognize a number of items without counting—as they determine the quantity of the groups.

It was Grandparent’s Day! We made a family tree. (Rylan) I laminated these this afternoon and need to cut them out. They will come home on Monday! I put some great pictures of kids with their grandparents/special guests on Class Dojo!

We wrote about how much we love our grandparents. (Grayson)

Next week I will be out Tuesday and Wednesday for a minor procedure. I got a wonderful substitute to cover! Please call the office if you have any transportation changes or need anything on these days.

Save the Date! Our Peach Tree Farms Pumpkin Patch Field Trip will be October 12^th and parents are invited! More information will come home in the next couple weeks.

Tomorrow I will be leaving at 2 pm for an appointment. The class will end the day with a substitute teacher. This might be a good talking point tonight at home. Remind your student to “go with the flow” and that the sub might do things a little differently than me! There will not be closing meeting notes sent home tomorrow because of this.

Friday is Grandparent’s Day/Special Friend’s Day!! Our room will celebrate from 9-10 am by doing a family tree craft! You are welcome to send in a list of family members/extended family members to help with this craft if you would like!

If your student does not have someone coming during this time please let me know so I can find an adult for them! It is definitely ok for a parent to come if you do not have a grandparent or special friend available!
